    Hi,

    I am looking at getting my first motorcycle, I have looked at Harley,
    Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki.

    I think I want something in the 650 - 1200 cc range and no more than $
    8000 - 9000. The following are the bikes I have considered:

    * Harley - 883
    * Yamaha - V Star 1100 Classic
    * Suzuki - C50
    * Kawasaki - Vulcan 900 Classic

    I am a 6 ft 214 lbs. person and will probably be using it to commute to
    and
    from work and for short rides in the city. As you can see, I like the
    classic look and I prefer the wide and low look.

    I so plan on taking the motorcycle training course before I buy my
    motorcycle.

    Any comments on which motorcycle would better fit me would be greatly
    appreciated.

    Cheers,

    Lue

    I couldn't comment on fitment for those bikes, but you should get the
    one that gives you a woody. There's much that can be adjusted for
    fitment on any bike...seat, feet, handlebars.

    All are nice, my favorite would be the Vstar-1100.But you need to
    consider the VLx 1300-Honda,shaftDrive. too. goodLuck bjay-

  4. buy a used bike for a first bike. saves lots of money while you figure
    out if you really like to ride and what you will like to ride a year or
    two from now. saves heartache when you drop it the first time and the
    second time and then the third time when you didn't realize the parking
    lot was soft from the heat and it falls over by itself. don't
    necessarily go for what you consider the ultimate ride even at this
    point, you're not there yet. if you continue to ride, that ultimate
    ride decision will be a moving target as your experience grows and your
    tastes develope and change. don't follow the crowd nor the silver
    toungued salesman. the crowd doesn't care nor matter and the salesman
    only wants as much money as he can get from you or to pass off unsold
    crap to a newbie. repeat that last line to yourself when shopping.

    get something easy to handle, not heavy and not huge amounts of power,
    you aren't ready for that. a mid-size displacement (250-850cc) will tax
    your abilities quite well at this point. try doing figure 8's inside a
    30ft circle without putting your feet down if you don't believe me.
    learn to ride well and then move up, your experience will be better
    overall. if you decide that riding isn't for you, you won't get raped
    when you sell the used bike. if you decide to keep riding and change
    bikes, you won't be deeply committed to something you wish you hadn't
    bought after you've gotten some experience. there are plenty of low
    mileage used bikes out there and there is no rush to buy. don't let the
    dealerships jam you, look at private sales too. shop around with an
    open mind and find the best deal. this won't be the only bike you get
    if you keep riding, it's only the first. (you didn't marry the first
    girl who kissed you, did you?)

    i would recommend taking the MSF course from a place not affiliated with
    a dealership. community colleges offer the course and provide learner
    bikes without a slant or agenda except to keep your ass safe. you will
    be surprised how much those bikes will tax your skills at this point in
    time. have fun, be safe and good luck.

    I like the looks of the Kawie Vulcans, never rode the 900 but rode the 800
    for just over a year, comfortable seat and enough get up and go to feel like
    you can keep up with freeway traffic. which one feels the best when your
    sitting on it?
