new guzzi sportbike?

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Zebee Johnstone, Aug 4, 2006.

  1. from http://www.raptorsandrockets.com/news.html which has a pic of the
proposed bike, presumably from the Guzzi press kit.

"As reported earlier Moto Guzzi will concentrate on launching a sports
bike next after efforts on the Norge tourer and Griso muscle bike.
Today this has been confirmed from the Moto Guzzi press office. Moto
Guzzi told me that they are testing a 1.1, 1.2 and 1.3 litre engine
destined for the new sports bike. Only one of the configurations will
make it, but cubes will give the new bike more muscle and an advantage
on the road. The bike will be fully faired and the styling will be a
mixture between the Griso and Norge models. Pic: HvW

It is believed Moto Guzzi has been developing an adventure bike they
intend to call Stelvio. Moto Guzzi told us this project has been
postponed at least one year so no production ready adventure bike
later this year at the EICMA show in Milan."

1300 lump? That's going to be interesting....

Who knows? Bikes are a toy, and small sportsters don't sell unless
they have a lot of HP.

So the chance of Guzzi putting out something like a 750 Monza are
minimal I bet, because someone will look at that and say "more horses
    on a Jap 600" and that's that.

If you want a "small" roadster, get a Suzi SV650 or the Hyosung
    equivalent. Lovely sporty bikes.

If you want a slightly less sporty riding position get a 750 Breva.

If you want something under 500, import it from Japan cos no one here
will buy them so the importers won't import them. Since the demise of
the 2 stroke there's no point, can't get enough horses.

    Zebee
    - who enjoys her low powered 500 a lot, but knows that no one who
started riding after about 1990 would touch such a slow bike.
    Except BigIain, but he's weird.

hmm in one repect that is true , but another is bang for buck
and what the stealerships try to charge for a bike and quite often
the lower bike is lacking in not just HP ,but suspension and other aspects
so for not much more $$$ you get a whole lot more bike
even less chance now that Aprilia runs the show
    yep and at good prices
thats due to the price in the main again for not much more i get a whole lot
    more bike
    and available market

start bringing in a full feature 400 at a decent price and i bet you would
    get more girls and
    shorter folk buying them

I'm surprise that they havent started bringing them in since the Lams
    introduction in several states
but again it prob comes down to cost and narrow minded business directives
and me , rode the V50 with the open pipes and starting looking around for 1
    ;)

    but i'm weird too

I think MotoCiclo in Sydney knows of a V50 Monza looking for a new
    home...

the bulk of the 400's don't qualify for LAMS

    only the RVF400

    thats grey imports

lets start talking about new bikes and i am sure that there is a few from
    the different
manufacturers that could get through or be made to get through , they just
    dont do
it and my guess is cost and what the price would be

just look at the whoflung with its carb sliders

main prob i have currently is way too many bikes as it is and dont ride much
    as it is

if one popped up for the right price then would seriously consider it

    Hey, I love small bikes!

But they don't sell to sportbike riders.... Big bikes do!

600s sell well because they have silly power figures and are
    relatively cheap.

Anyone got the sales figures? What are the best selling sportbikes?

  12. The old v twin is getting a bit long in the tooth though. Even BMW
    are trying new engines.

Yes, it's not like that eightfold increase in scooter sales since the
turn of the century has offset that, or anything...

  18. Yeah, what would Moto Guzzi know about building sports bikes? To be a
"proper" sportsbike builder you've got to compete in world level racing
an win, right? And you'd need to win championships too, winning 4 or 5
in a row would confirm you as a "serious sportsbike manufacturer". You'd
need to build multi cylinder water cooled twin ohc motors that rev high,
like 12,000rpm or something. You'd need to be innovative in your use of
fairings for aerodynamics. If you were _really_ serious about being a
sportsbike builder you'd probably even have a go at a V8 motor! How
    sweet would _that_ be?

But what would Moto Guzzi know about any of that, eh?

Your Triumph Sprint can trace a racing heritage like that though, can't
it? Triumph has its name in all the GP racing history books with its
track record of innovative sportsbike design... Remind me again exactly
when the last Triumph World Championship victory was?

    ;-)
