As a child I can remember my father installing central heating in my
bedroom... and then forbidding me to ever turn the valve on. Ice used
to form on the inside of the window during particularly cold winters.

Oddly, I've not really felt the cold that much since.

  2. It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember saying
    something like:
As you huddled round a candle for warmth.

I was, unti recently, that evil father. I wouldn't light the fire in my
daughter's room (it was coal) because (a) I was tight (b) not sure of the
wisdom of a 6 year old and an open fire.

Her friends never wanted to play upstairs [1].

    She never mentions it.

[1] This is in danger of working on too many levels.

I had no problems either, carrying the helmet as additional hand
luggage all the way from Heathrow to Frankfurt, back to LHR, then
to Cape Town. No one ever commented on it. But on the way back I
was deemed a dangerous subject as I had a cable lock in my other
carry on. Had to check it in at the gate, and they promptly failed
to get onto the plane, which was standing ten meters away. After
some phonecalls it was eventually delievered at midnight to me [1].
This was after it went happily through four or five other security
    checks.

[1] of the same day, arrived in LHR at 14:00 and got them to bring
    it to Oxford at midnight.
