Not for me, but for Danny Imberg, the guy whose '04 ZX10R I spanner. A win and a second in the Pro-bike class and then another win in the All-comers race, so that was three trophies - then another bigger trophy for getting top points in the Pro-bike class. That boy can ride. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
I was trying desperately to give him pit signals[1] when you called me on the pit wall, he was leading that race and went on to win. You ain't kidding. Danny races mainly for shits and giggles - BSB is in a different league entirely, it's all very professional. [1] Which are always one lap out when you're trying to do it alone at Brands. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
Yes, but he's obviously reached the top of what he can do in that class so a step up (or even sideways to something a bit different) would be A Good Thing IWHT. I guess I'm looking from the perspective of the people trying to catch Danny, who won't have much of a chance if he's winning pretty much everything. They'll be the Evertons of this world to his Man U. I remember way back when, when Ian Cobby & Mick Davidson were winning everything in the nationals, it was pretty frustrating for the chasing pack as they didn't really have the same financial backing. Having said that, everyone needs someone to aspire to and a pinnacle to reach, and it sounds like they've got Danny showing the way and best of luck to him.
I think that's why he's decided to also run a very trick RGV250 in Derby Phoenix Formula 250 class, once it's been rebuilt by Graham File and run in by me at Donington. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
and maybe get a big shock when he moves up a class. A mate is a competent enduro rider. In the late 90s he was persuaded to move from the clubman class to ride a sponsored KTM in the "whatever they call the next step up" class. He went from regular trophy collector to an also ran. Even with sponsorship from a KTM dealer, his overheads increased dramatically. Then factor in the loss of the social aspect: as Lozzo says, once you go above a certain stage the pit atmosphere changes from that of camaraderie to professionalism.
Well, he's trained me to go from high end of novice/low inters on a Gixer Thou, up to holding my own mid fast group on a lightly stripped down 10 yr old CBR600 roadbike, so he can't be that bad. Btw, when can I expect to meet you on track? -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
I admit I will gloat hugely and I will post "Lozzo in faster than Bear shocker" when we return . Truth is, I may well be quicker than you on track but I am still a slower road rider - I just don't go as quick as I used to on roads any more, it doesn't feel right. Instruction at No-Limits trackdays is all included in the price. You sometimes get different instructors depending on what group you run in, and how experienced you are within that group IYSWIM, but if you approach Danny directly he'll usually take you out and show you things. You do know Dave Lawes is their chief instructor, don't you? -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
I'm going to Cadwell with the CBR over the 30/31st May, should be fun. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
This is the annual club two-dayer; Ducati only on Day 1 and open to all bikes on Day 2. It's a great laugh and so much more fun than just a normal trackday as you know nearly everyone there. I didn't do it last year due to snapped bones, but as I'm not racing in Assen this weekend [1] I'll be spending a lot less of that money doing the trackdays instead. I'm taking the DD bike and the 748 as Phill will be on the DD bike for the Ducati only day with me on the 748, then he's running the RGV for the second day. Should be good fun, especially as there are 3 'sedicis going! [1] and neither is anyone else with the state of the ferries!
Most of them were on ferries. Those that want to get there are having trouble switching to the chunnel as that's what everyone else is doing. Quite a lot have switch to using the Harwich > Hook of Holland route instead. Others are winging it ;-)
I did Oulton in February, it fucking rocks. -- Lozzo Suzuki SV650S K5 Honda CBR600 FW trackbike Yamaha SR250 Spazz-Trakka Suzuki GSXR750 L Suzuki TS50X Suzuki TS50X
