ITYF the 1098cc unit was fitted to the Morris before it was bunged in an MG.

About 5 years before the 1100 series saw the light of day IIRC.

948cc for the Minor actually. The 998cc engine was used in the Mini.

Not forgetting the good old 918cc side valve and the less impressive
    803cc OHV Minors.

Granted, but in fact I think you will find that the 1098cc was actually
used in the last Minors from 1962.

    I know. My first car was a 1966 1098cc Minor 1000 Traveller[1]. My dad
    had 5 Minors all told and I also restored a 1098cc B regd 1964 2-door
for my ex-wife. The 948 was used in the first Minor 1000s from 1956 on
IIRC. The 998 was never used in the Minors.

[1] Aussie spec from a CKD, with no heater but a fucking huge radiator.

My first car was a 1952 Minor (918 SV). No water pump as standard
(thermosyphon cooling only) but someone had fitted an add on pump to run
a heater. This worked by having a drive wheel which was pressed on the
fan belt under spring pressure. Inevitably the bearings in the pump
seized and the wheel wore a groove in the belt.

I particularly remember blowing the head gasket one night coming back
down the M6 from Blackpool. We climbed over the motorway fence and got
some water from a nearby farm. Got us home, but warped the head -
luckily no shortage of SV Minor heads in scrap yards in those days.

  10. Whats 40cc between friends eh?

I remember being amused by some old advert for it where it is descibed
as a 'powerful modern engine producing more than 27bhp'!

I suspect it was never powerful or modern..
