As my Nitro Boots started to fall apart[1] last week I have gone and
    purchased something a bit newer:

Diadora CrossBow in the OTC, as modelled in:
    <http://www.motoabbigliamento.it/images/stivali/DICBne.jpg>

    Also available in blue:
<http://mxtb.co.uk/images/crossbow boots.jpg> and other colours of
    the rainbow.

They're a complete bastard at the moment. I can't do stairs in them,
changing down gears is an issue as is using the rear brake. Breaking
them in will be entertaining. ...Or perhaps I just have a clinical
need for a bigger bike to match my boots.

    Hmm.

[1] They were worn at least twice a day, every day,
rain/flood/earthquake/sun, crashed in, soaked, baked, buffed and
mistreated. Lasted through five months of constant abuse

It's on my list of "To Try" bikes.

I like the BMW GS (Wessie let me have a ride last time he was in Kent)
but I find the cost of things like top box/panniers to be prohibitive.
I understand that the Tiger comes with matching Panniers as standard.

The great "Test Ride" event will happen over the next few months.

Why can't I find a decent pair of plain 'racing boots' like Diadora sold
twenty-five years ago or Gaerne ten years ago? Boots that fit under jeans
or over leathers and which you can wear in the office without looking silly.
Do any motorcycle clothing manufacturers still make them or am I talking
    cobblers?

Need some new boots meself as the upper stitching on my Sidi Couriers
has finally started to give up. I'd get another pair, too; 4 years and
60k miles is good in my book. Still on the original soles, second set of
toe-cups and about my fifth strap.

Sometime around Tue, 23 Aug 2005 21:53:38 +0100, BGN babbled on about:
Try the Adventure at the EOSM for a comparison, have you considered Air
Heads such as the G/S? a little bit older but worth considering.

    No idea, granddad.
    ;-)

Joking aside, I can't visualise a "racing boot" that wouldn't make you
look a bit of a nob around the office. OTOH, something like HG's
"Engineer's Boot" you might get away with.

I think Daytona may make something suitable(ish).

Racing boots are probably going to get rather uncomfy at the office, IWHT.

My Altbergs, however are bloody great and don't look daft.

I was eyeing up a Gixxer 750 at Alford Bros. yesterday, but I RESISTED
the urge to swing my leg over it. It's not very big, and I'm sure I'd
    have an issue fitting.

Are you bringing your Thou to EoSM? If so, can I swing my leg over it
in the car park to size it up? I don't want to actually take it out
anywhere as Certain Death would happen shortly afterwards.

Old panties. I'll wear black/white matching clothes to work today
just in honour of the boots.

Very little difference apart from the Adv has longer travel suspension,
a different screen, a different seat (single piece, non-adjustable for
height) and has a different ratio 6th gear (and 1st if you option it).

Plus, many of them came "pre-optioned" with the big 30 liter tank,
heated grips, brush-guards and engine-bars -- mine did.

Still see quite a few R100GS around. Saw a minter in Paris a year ago
    :)
