Their off-road boots are very good, but I wouldn't touch any of their
road boots with a bargepole. Mostly because I don't like Lorica as a
    cheap leather substitute.

If you've got that kind of money, you can probably go for some
Daytonas. I like my Road Star GTX boots, they rock.

I was thinking of getting a pair of these. What are they like for fit?

I ask because, with some waterproof boots you have to go up a couple of
sizes more than normal for a comfortable fit.

  5. Wellies, and the balance of the budget spent on a curry and a damn good

DR emerged from their own little world to say
I have a pair of very old Daytona Highways that rocked mightily. I keep
meaning to get then refurbished as the soles have worn out.

I bought a pair of Daytona Non Stop last year. I've been very happy with
them. Not as heavy or warm as the Highways. Just as waterproof. Quite
comfortable for short excursions on foot.

Eh? Nearly all the goretex 'sport/touring' ones, to which I refer, are
made from leather - no Lorica in sight. That's reserved for the
    'road/race' boots.

  11. We[1] were probably the UK's leading stockist of AlpineStars road and
racing boots in the mid-to-late 1980s - until the GP Pro Mk2 was
launched, made from Lorica. Our gut instincts at the time - which
resulted in our dropping the brand because we didn't wish to be
associate with what we considered would be a serious reduction in
protection - have since been proven right by test data. It is fortunate
that virtually all motorcyclists' boots made from Lorica are spec'ed up
to the kneecaps with thermoplastic mouldings and sliders, for without
these components, the probability of the wearer sustaining serious foot
and lower leg abrasions would increase significantly.

Alt-Berg, BMW, Hein Gericke and Oxtar are all offering boots which have
been tested to EN 13634. Given their position as one of the leading
motorcyclists' footwear manufacturers, I do find it strange that
AlpineStars haven't joined that elite - but growing - band.

So you don't have anything against their leather boots, i.e. all the
    'sport/touring' ones?

If Altbergs need a service at 10K then you'd be better of buying
Daytonas. My Roadstar GTXs have done at least 60K miles without a
    service so far.

They are claiming their Supertech boots are CE approved on their
official website. Frankly, I'm surprised they made it through testing.

I'll have to take a look at a pair before I make comment. It will be
interesting to see what the manufacturer's information booklet - a
legal requirement - states. If, however, AlpineStars have finally got
their act together and produced a certified product, then it is about
time, well done to them and let's hope they will now set to and do
something about the rest of their motorcyclists' clothing products!
After all, they didn't seem to need much encouragement to get their
fabric Karting suits through the same abrasion and cut tests used to
    evaluate motorcyclists' clothing...

Now I have to update my web site listing of manufacturers of accredited
products, and get the BMF and Motor Cycle Council of New South Wales to
    do the same.

  16. Not if they are well put together and, as Lozzo has pointed out
elsewhere, they appear to have finally got their act together and
started to market accredited (CE marked) models.

I've got some nice CE boots, with steel toe caps.. Wouldn't dream of
    using them on the bike.

  18. The motorcycle boot standard does utilise text from the industrial
footwear standards, plus a few appropriate additions and amendments.
