how did the SP1 compare to SimonK's RSV-Mille?

Felt smaller, more agile, more like a race bike.

I really wanted to like the Mille, but actually didn't gel with it on
the short ride I had. There was something about the steering
characteristics which made me feel unsure about how far I could lean
it over. No doubt something I would get used to, and almost certainly
down to tyres anyway, but it wasn't love at first ride.

thanks for that - I'm still in vague "differing about what bike to
change to or maybe I'll just keep the 'blade" territory.

There are only two things I don't like about the 'blade - the riding
position puts a lot of weight on my wrists, and also, I worry too much
when riding about how much a set of fairing plastics would cost to
replace if I binned it. Both of which kinda rule out changing to
another race-rep anyway, which in turn leads to thinking about just
    keeping the thing.

I must do the lottery or something...

The blade has good residuals, and is in good nick (apart from the
homdicators). Sell it. Buy a retro/muscle bike for commuting and a
track bike. But get the track bike with a V5 and a daytime MOT. With
race-plastics you can take on a FOF and ride like a **** without
worrying too much about the expense of a bin. When you go to a track
you take it in a van or on a trailer, so you can ride like a ****
without worrying too much about getting home.

I'm getting those sorted as part of the up-coming 12000 mile service.
    I would like another B12.
how common would this be? At the very least for a daytime MOT, doesn't
the rear brake light have to work?
does sound like a good plan...

Well, maybe you wouldn't be looking for a track bike, as such. Just a
slightly older race-rep type. Like Batey's ZXR750 that Gower had.
You want good plans? Come to me, every time.

the problem with that sort of thing, is it tends to come fucked -
Gower had to put a lot of effort into getting that thing fixed up, and
Batey still have problems with it, didn't he?
    heh.

Not certain about the current regs, but it used to be that any lights
fitted had to work, so as long as you've removed all trace of the rear
    light you would be OK.

You can check out how much damage I did when we go to Snetterton, with my
crash thingies. Best 30 quid I ever spent.

What happened to Simon's Mille anyway? Did he sell it and if so why?

I'm thinking that your naturally high level of riding skill would very
quickly find the Firestorm's handling limits. They aren't really a
sports bike, they do a reasonable job of pretending to be one though. It
cost me 200 quid to have my forks sorted so they didn't lock up on bumpy
roads, I really should have thrown the rear shock away and invested in
something that worked as well. They cost too much to sort, and you end
up with a bike that still doesn't cut it in the company of similar
    machines.

    I reckon you'd be better off with a TL1000S tbh. They're cheaper for a
start, and once the rear suspension is sorted they make a bloody good
sports V-twin, better than the VTR at least.

Neither of the TLs came with a conventional shock, but Maxton do a
tailor made conversion. Monz had his sorted and by all accounts it
handled excellently, until he crashed it :)

The rear shock and spring need replacing with proper units that work. As
I said above, Maxton can sort it for reasonable money.
For 3 grand you'll get an absolutey immaculate belter of a TL1000S
that's all sorted and with all the mods done. I'd personally find a good
standard one and have the suspension units built/tuned to suit me and my
riding style. Maxton will do this.

Buying a standard one also gives you a bit of a lever in the purchase,
they were known for being a bit flighty so you can use this to push the
price down. Also, when buying one with standard suspension, you'll
pretty much know that it hasn't been ridden that hard, or it would have
been be through a hedge somewhere.

You'd still need a stop light for an MOT.

Sorry, I hadn't realised I was doing that, I know it pisses me off when
I see it. I have looked through the Gravity options and can't see where
to turn it off, cos I can't see it turned on IYSWIM. Any clues?

you mean you haven't fixed it yet? Fairing-pikey.
he's selling it right now on eBay.

    Presumably because he's a big girly cry-baby.

Chicks dig scars. Anyway, you wait until you see the leathers. £200 to fix
them? **** off! I'll do it myself with baling twine or catgut. Bride of
    Frankenstein here we come.

Well that was not the case in the early 80's, which was when I was
talking about. I even had the requirement tested in court, when some
twat of a plod tried to do me for the lack thereof. He failed.
