Yes. Well, I applied for a post in the local paper, had no

Heh, same as me. After getting kicked off the engineering course I was on I
just sort of fell into computing and here I am 20 odd years later still at
it. One day people will realise that computers aren't as complicated as we
    make them out to be.

You weren't, and that's apart from it being bloody obvious. [1]

I don't know that all-out education is the way to go. I did it, and
then spent over a year trying to get a job. Cv waving, posting,
applying - it all came back with the same thing[1] of "not enough
experience". Even the company I went to who weren't going to apply on
the basis of prior experience[2] turned me down for the reason "not
    enough experience".

I finally got this job after chasing some, looking at what skills were
needed, getting the basics down and then applying for everything.

In comparison, a guy I know who was the year below me at high school
and now runs his own consulting firm. Apparently he recently swapped
his evo7 for an evo8. He just set up as soon as he left school and
    didn't look back.

It appears that if you've got the will to do it, you'll do it.

[1] for the ~2% that bothered to reply
[2] had to sit through a reasonably boring presentation detailing how
they knew they were recruiting fresh graduates and so weren't expecting
    them to have any experience

The varlet known as Christofire did proclaim to all assembled:

*That* one! I remember you were less than chuffed about it, when we
spoke, a coupla daze later.... closest I've seen you to getting narked,
other than the time I poked you in the eye. ;-)

Binary to decimal conversion gives 65 79 76
ASCII character codes for A, O and L.

You'd prolly like an SP1 or SP2 - I rode an SP1, and thought it pretty
    good.

The firestorm is much less of a pure sports bike tho, and I doubt it
    would light your fire.
