There's something strangely satisfying about buying new bits and bobs
for the bike. Today's haul includes:

    * HJC carbon helmet, to replace the ageing and knocked/chipped/
    scratched AGV
    * set of earplugs with interchangeable filters
    * Mityvac brake bleeding kit

The mityvac looks like being a reasonable amount of fun, and proper
gadget like. Plenty tubes, fixtures and assorted widgets to play
    with.

Also, I was rather impressed with the HJC helmet bag, which is a
tough, waterproof outer, fleece inner, padded, zipped bag instead of
the flimsy cloth things I've previously had bundled in.

A url is much more useful:

    http://www.mityvac.com/pages/products_hvpk.asp

That's the kiddy, and that's all you need to bleed brakes properly.

Swat I got and have found it to be the most comfortable helmet I have owned
so far... not the quietest though.

Call it what you like (note the smiley), I've had it 3 1/2 years and it's
stood up well and still fits reasonably well after being worn for approx.
30,000 miles of biking in most weathers. It also rolled across the full
length of the upper deck (shellgrip surface) of a fast cat ferry and most of
    the marks polished out.

    What?

Ah, the visor opens better when it's not locked. Also, I went for the
patterned one in silver, partly to live up to the powerranger
stereotype and mostly not to look like you.

Try a Shoei. I couldn't fit the XR1000 but the X-Spirit seems to have a
shape very close to my old Quantum F. Good build quality and lots quieter
    than the Arai.

I find my Arai to be quieter than my Uvex and it came with the visor
already prepared for a Pinlock insert.

Yep, the more expensive Arais come with a Pinlock insert in the box too
    - mine just came ready to take the one I bought at the same time.
I don't have a problem with Pinlock and streetlights, and that's with
the fresnel lens in my specs as well.

Yes. I've never had cause to be anything but impressed by them. What's
really nice is that in relative terms, they are cheaper than ever now.
    I'd buy one... oh, I did[1].

[1] I know, it's a shit situation to be in, I actually had to pay for it
with my own money. Mind you, it's the first time I've properly bought a
helmet in about 6 years and I've had loads in that time.

Come on, you're the last person anyone should be asking about visual
    distortion!

    <raises two fingers>
"Lozzo, how many fingers am I holding up?"
"None, but that **** over there's flicking me the Vs"
