A standard 1983 GSX750EFE was timed at 12 seconds down the quarter mile
with Pip Higham in the saddle when it was new. I managed to get mine
down to 11.8 secs at Santa pod, just the once after a lot of practise
and a few weeks after I destroyed a clutch trying.

  6. For the benefit of anyone interested:

The Turbo was released before the 900R, though not by much. It was
announced in spring/summer 1983 and was exhibited at the Earls Court
    bike show that summer.

The 900R was announced at the Paris bike show the same year, shortly
before Christmas, so some six months later. The same show that saw the
unveiling of the RD500LC, in fact, so obviously a vintage year :))

The Turbo made it to market in the UK a few months before the 900R, and
was tested a few months before it by Bike magazine.

The Turbo managed to make it into the 10s in the hands of Jay "Pee Wee"
Gleason, so nicknamed because he was a runt who weighed sod-all and thus
could post standing quarter times nobody else could ever match. He ran a
best of 10.71 seconds on the Turbo :-0

Curiously, I don't think Gleason set a record time on the 900R. But it
got into the 10s too - 10.55 seconds was a figure widely quoted.

Short answer - the Turbo got there first, in both senses. Documentation
available to view in the Chateau.....

My AR80 did the quarter in 16.7 secs with polished ports/head and
standard pipe. Fitting a Micron expansion and rejettimg lost me a second
    a run.

Yep, power to weight ratio is everything.
Red dwarf weights in at 60kg soaking wet and Dave is a skinny tall **** at
    10stone.
Blue dwarf weights 60kg and I`ve lost half a stone in weight:)))
