After a year of waiting I have finally got my hands on a new 53 plate Honda
ST1300P. Now to try to take it easy until the 600mile service and see what
it can do. Watch out for me in your mirrors!! LOL

They are nicer in many ways. More power, lighter and rather more modern
looking. Fewer miles to the gallon (and tank) is a downer and a rather
less 'refined' feeling engine. Panniers are the 'wrong shape' for my
    use (carrying laptops etc).

I suspect I might get one soon though.

Am i alone in thinking the styling is awful? It looks as though they
couldn't think of a how to improve it so changed it for the sake of it. I
guess the fact that it's lighter is a good move, but less refined and more
    thirsty?

A chap at work had one as a courtesy bike when his high mileage ST11 was in
and he couldn't see the point in "upgrading"...

I quite like the looks. And the electrically adjustable screen is nice.
Still too low to be of any use to me (being more than 5' tall).
IIRC people were saying that they are getting about 35mpg from them. I
get about 48 from the 1100. I think the tank is also slightly (a litre
or two) smaller on the 1300 than the 1100.
That's sort of where I am. The 1100 is not exciting or sexy, but it's
    hugely competent.

Nice! On a similar vein albeit 4 wheeled, I've just had my new company
car delivered which given that it's about to lash down with rain is
nice. Mazda 6 TD in case anyone cares, first impressions are that it's
very nice. I'm sure Claire will enjoy it, she's going to be the main
    driver :(

    [new pan]
Are they more resiliant in a rear-end shunt?

The electric screen is ace, at 6'1" I stay totally dry with it right up. I
do a lot of sitting about on it at the moment and according to the onboard
computer its getting 3.8 miles a litre or roughly 18mpg. The tank is a
litre bigger than the old one at 29 litres rather than 28. Even now, when
being gentle there is a lot more lift pulling away and the other ones I've
had a chance to ride hard go and handle better than the old one(even if
    things start touching down earlier)

Exactly, I can't help but feel they bottled it and thought "We'll have to
make it look posey" but Beemers have been pig ugly for years and it doesn't
    do them any harm...

From my brief go on one (1100) i suddenly realised why chap at work took the
piss out of the TRX i had at the time. Sure the 1100 was much less nimble
but he stayed dry, was comfortable for mile after mile and the thing keeps
on running. Horses for courses i guess.

No, I was taking the piss.

It was before you started posting here so I guess you wouldn't know
about Simes' wife riding her scooter flat out into the back of him at
some traffic lights. Always been dangerous putting women on 2 wheels..
    ;o)

Are you sure about those figures? 29 litres at 3.8mpl gives tank range
of less that 120 miles. You might as well get a Bandit 1200.

heh. I'd heard the rumours that it was bad but it wasn't until
I rode back to Calais in a group that include Sean D. on his
B12 that I realised just how bad the tank range is.

The worst thing is that it's not so much that the engine's
thirsty, more that the tank is pathetically small for such
    a big bike.

Probably something they fixed on the 2k-onwards models, while
buggering up the rest of the bike.

Out of town it's fine, still thirstier than the old one, but round town it
just drinks it. Also I filled it up and when sitting shortly after the heat
from the engine obviously expanded the fuel and it started pishing out of
    the breather which was unnerving.

    Nice...

Weren't there some 'issues' with heat? Didn't they do something odd
with insulation during one of the recalls?

Not too uncommon. I have to be careful filling the Guzzi.

Refuelling during a long run I thought I'd round it up to the nearest
50p. Whilst waiting to pay I could see the heat from the engine had
caused the fuel to expand which was now pissing out of the closed filler
    cap and running everyfuckingwhere.

It was making a sort of hissing noise as the petrol dripped onto the
    cylinders and exhaust headers.....

Jesus H Christ! How much (or little)??? The last bike I heard of

Good man. As it should be.
Only regularly beaten by a Firestorm ...
The 2000 and later bikes have a larger tank, about 4l more iirc. This
required frame mods to accomodate it, of course.

  20. It is, indeed, utter utter crap. And a right PITA for anyone riding with
him. Mind you, that's just Sean, nothing to do with the bike.....
