I'm looking at CB500s. In fact, this evening I'm going to kick a
couple of tyres on one and peruse the V5.

Anything that I should be particularly watching out for? It's a 1998
model CB500S, 11,000 miles, DataTag, Meta alarm and immobiliser,
stated to be in very good condition (the owner says that it has one
    barely visible scratch). Private sale.

Would the Font Of All Knowledge venture a valuation, perchance?

it being wheeled off. Gotta count your blessings :-(( Anyone breaking
    a model W?)

I paid £2200.00 for mine last June, a bit newer, unfaired with similar
mileage, also in pretty good nick.

Look out for overly rusty downpipes, end can and rusty chromework (my back
    springs are very badly pitted).

Bike magazine has a feature on CB-5's this month (I wrote a mini-review
    about my bike for it)

Did you get paid for it?

No, it was only a few comments about CB-5 ownership.
Showed it to my dad, who was quite chuffed, so that was a bonus I guess, and
mum wants me to scan a copy for her scrapbook.

Oddly enough, a similar thing happened to me with my hornet. What are the
    odds eh?

There's always that headline in the local paper:

"Local man runs amok with angle grinder after third moped theft" [1]

[1] Though perhaps "Moped man murder mayhem" would be more punchy.

I had the non S model.

Great fun for a first bike. Downpipes rust. That was about the only
complaint I had with mine. Balancing the carbs can really improve its
    rideability too :p

Akkshirley there's been a spate of moped thefts over the last couple of
weeks, 1 x Honda Sky (stolen by known scrote and seen being brazenly ridden
around town), 1 x RS50 (torched) and 1 x TS50 (thankfully not ours, but not
found yet either). All of my lad's mates who ripped the piss over the alarm
/ immobiliser and ships anchor chain fitted to ours are now asking where
they can get hold of such security measures.

Incidentally, we are now fairly sure who nicked my lads TS50, and a
deviously cunning plan is being hatched, which should **** the scrote over
    quite nicely.

I thought you bought yours new, if so how come the carbs were out of
    balance.

Mind you, I may be wrong in which case I'll STFU.

I can't see Jamie's DT50MX lasting long, to be honest.

One of my lad's mates was bought a brand new Motohispania Furio 50, a lovely
    little liquid cooled trailee.
Unfortunately he lives right in the middle of the area where our TS 50 was
stolen from, and he has no garage, so the bike is kept on the patio.

We are currently running a book on how long until it goes missing.

I can see the spam now:

orange? Well, now you can ... "

    "PS. Oranges charged extra"
