I am getting a new air compressor for the shop . It has to be 220 single
phase, upright, dual stage, and be able to keep up with my air tools. Like a
lift table, 3/8 impact, die grinder, air chisel, spray gun , etc.
Who has the best price and good quality ? I am wanting to spend around $600
    or under if possible.

Any experience or been in the same boat and want to let me in on any info. ?
    Thanks,

finally some one agrees! I used to try run air grinders, the incessant noise
of the compressor running to try and keep up finally caused my wife to buy
me a 70.00 electric die grinder that will spin happily at 40,000rpm all day
    with NO noise

  3. Check out the "Puma" brand of air compressors. I bought their 80 gal 3
cyl all cast unit for $999.00, and when I was comparing and searching,
it was by far the better deal at the time. They also make smaller
units that seem, by outward appearance, to be as good as IR, Bel-Aire,
etc. for less money. I'm very happy with mine, and came with mag
starter, real motor and head unloader...something I couldn't touch for
    less than $1600.00

I've noticed that all of these people who have responded to your post
are speaking of HP and CFM and, for some ungodly reason Ohm's law. I'd
guarantee you that these people are engineers. Never trust an
engineer. They can make anything work on paper. Those of us that
actually have to fix their abortions know better.

Most of what you lack is "volume". Once a receiver (tank) is full of
air, it's just a matter of the time it takes to lower the pressure in
the receiver to hit the lower limit of the pressure switch (that black
or grey box that all of the wires go into) which will make the
    compressor start up again.

    I have an Ingersoll-Rand model 242 pump with a 60 gallon receiver. I
paid nothing for it <smirk>. One of the benefits of being an
    Ingersoll-Rand certified Air Compressor Technician.

The 242 is, in my opinion, the best 2-stage IR ever put out. But it
will not keep up with my die grinder when it is attached to a 60
gallon receiver. It will still kick on every 5 minutes. I have an
intake muffler on mine, which allows me to hold a normal conversation.

It sounds like a $600 compressor will suffice for most of your needs.
If you plan on running the hell out of your die grinder, an extra
receiver (tank) may be your best bet.

Any questions, feel free to email me. I don't wear Dockers or Polo
shirts. The grease and oil would stain them.
