I think that would depend on which "stanchion" they were wrapped around.

  3. In uk.rec.motorcycles, platypus amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
They are clipped on at the top of the bottom at the bottom (iyswim) and
at the top a few inches below the bottom yoke. IFAIA, the seals are in
good nick but as the use of cable ties have been employed I wasn't sure
if they were deemed to be permanent.

I had a set of bindit forks hard chrome plated and the finish was
relatively rough (around 50 Ra I think) and it wore out a set of seals
in about 1000 miles however during this time the chrome was polished
shiny by the seals and the next set of seals have been in for 20k+ miles.

Don't forget the toilet roll former (or paper towel former if you have a
    long-stroke "stanchion".)

Hehe, the answer for WC is yes, they do count as gaiters. BTDT.

  8. Not always. It's always worth shoppng around. I remember finding that
Dave Silver sold new 400 Four stanchions for about a tenner less than a
re-chrome and re-grind would have cost.

In fact, Silver is doing a complete left-hand fork assembly (that'll
include the leg, spring, everything) for ukp49+VAT. Buy two of those,
and just whip the stanchion out of the second one.

  9. Old bits of inner tube do. Tip; make sure there's an ole at the bottom,
else when you brake the things balloon up.
