Neglected GS500E to put back on the road.

I have come a cross a Suzuki GS500E that has been of the road for about four
or five years. Apart from the oil looking like it was well filled no
mothballing precautions appear to have been taken.

What is the minimum I should need to do to see if it will turn over without
    doing any harm?

I guess I'll be trying a bump start unless I swap a battery into it.

    TIA.

  2. Drain the fuel, and drain the carbs. If it smells of varnish, throw the
carbs away and get another set. If you're really lucky, the owner will
have drained the carbs before laying it up.

Other than that - if it's got oil and fuel in it, then connect up a
fresh battery and just press the button to see what happens.

Although there's a fair bit of truth in this you may be lucky and in all
likelihood an ultrasonic clean will sort them out.

'Off' petrol does gum up the works, The narrow passages on modern finely
tuned carbs are easily blocked beyond repair. I've seen this practically
write off an East German 30mm BVF carb, which is fairly industrial.

I'd be surprised if it even got to the 'Oioioioioioioi' stage if you
    bought it.
