NEED HELP!

I need assitance to synchronize my carbs! I just finished cleaning
them, and they are sparkly! However, I do not have an auxiliary fuel
tank to run my bike. What makes matters worse I do not have a tank to
use either! (Painting). I have checked most supply stores here in the
VA area, and to no avail. Does anyone have the ingredients to make an
aux supply source, or a better idea?

Also, I know its off topic, but to get a better sound from the exhaust
I was told to drill 4 or 6 1/4" holes equally spaced around the
diameter of the baffle, which in turn does not really effect the
backflow enough to warrant a larger jet?

    IS this correct?

    thanks all

Some people simply work with the fuel in the bowls of the carburetors.
It doesn't last long, but if you're reasonably good at synchronizing
carbs, and if the carbs aren't too far off, it works ok.

As for auxiliary fuel supplies, I've seen pictures ranging from tanks
off of other bikes to what are essentially drink bottles with a siphon
in them. Do what you're comfortable with, but be aware of the hazards
involved in having your homemade fuel tank springing a leak before you
    just slap something together.
Leave well enough alone is my advice. Drilling the baffles may or may
not result in a better sound, and once you've drilled the holes there's
no going back. You may also decide that you don't like the look of the
job, at which point you're shelling out for an aftermarket can anyway.

If the stock exhaust doesn't do it for you, look around for a used
aftermarket can. They come up regularly (though without knowing what
sort of bike you've got I can't really say more), and if you don't like
it you can likely sell it for what you paid for it.

Use your imagination. You probably have something around the garage
    that will work just.

I save the plastic squeeze bottles that Slime tire sealer comes in.
    They have a pointy
nozzle that is all set up to squeeze the Slime into a flat tire. A
    squeeze bottle for
mustard or ketchup might work as well, but it isn't clear plastic.

I just use a length of rubber fuel hose from the squeeze bottle to the
carburetors. You could use a small hose clamp to secure the hose to the
    bottle.

When I used the Slime bottle as an auxillary fuel tank I kept a fire
extinguisher handy in case some gasoline leaked out and got on the hot
    exhaust pipe.
You probably don't run on the main jet 95% of the time, so messing
around with it is unlikely to do anything except make your wallet
    lighter.

It really isn't less "back pressure" that causes tuning problems when
you open up the exhaust system, it's the fact that less heat is trapped
in the exhaust system and the exhaust runs cooler.

The tuned length of an exhaust pipe is from the exhaust valve to the
collector (or to the place where the header pipe widens out into the
body of the muffler if it's a single pipe to each cylinder.

There's a formula for tuned length, and it really doesn't matter that I
don't tell you what the formula is. But it has to do with the speed of
    sound in the exhaust gasses.

It's about 1700 feet per second and if the exhaust gasses are a
different temperature because there isn't enough "back pressure" the
exhaust header "tunes" at a different RPM.

And then there is the subject of selecting a larger jet. Most amateur
shade tree tuners who have fooled around with changing jet sizes don't
have a clue as to what the different jet size numbers mean.

I have explained Mikuni and Keihin jet sizing over and over and over
and over, and, if you *really* want to mess with changing jets, google
for "round jet" in this NG and you will find about 100 messages about
"round jets" and how changing from a #100 main jet to a #120 main jet
    affects fuel flow.

WARNING! condiment bottles or other plastic containers may disintegrate with
gas in them, or the line may blow off if it is a squeeze bottle. Don't let
    your imagination get carried away!

What, is your function in life to second guess what other people post?

People like you clog up Usenet with your counterproductive posting.

Didn't I mention that I kept a fire extinguisher handy when using the
    homemade auxilliary tank?

Motocross bikes have had plastic gas tanks for years.

Most plastic works just fine to contain gasoline for as long as it
takes to synchronize a set of carbs.

MY function in this case, SINCE YOU ASKED, is to prevent some fool taking
advice on the internet which will cause major injury and property damage.
Yes they make gas tanks out of plastic. Do you have any idea how many kinds
of plastic there are. MOST plastic containers DO NOT contain gasoline very
well. Oh, and I'm glad you keep a fire extinguisher around. I hope it's a
fucking big one! Ever seen a gasoline fire, bonehead??
If you don't have a clue, don't clog up usenet with YOUR useless posts,
    simp!

Sounds more like a MALFUNCTION to me, Hanky-poo...

Every Usenet user is responsible for whatever advice he takes, and your
    apparent
interest here is in causing dissension.

.....and by the way, I clearly stated my interest.
Dissension with you, oh hallowed guru? I couldn't care less! I usually let
most of your long-winded bullshit pass, hell some of it even has some merit.
But when someone is going to get hurt I have to say something. Pretty
unamurrican of me, eh??? Why have you changed your nick so many times?
<hint> I've had the same one for more than ten yrs. People only have to
    killfile me once.................
