I park in a car park and so I want to secure my bike to a pillar for
extra security. Chains are probably shite at stopping pro's but might
stop some **** breaking the steering lock and walking off with my bike.

ABUS make good locks for pushbikes but I don't really know their rep in
the biking world. That one seems alright. Thoughts?

    lol !

I quite like the look of these ones, as the links will be thick enough
to stop the Aldi bolt croppers getting around them.

They won't be up to a pro set of croppers tho.

I only want to stop an opportunist really. A pro would be looking for
    the nice brand new sportsbikes...

Brace yourself. The chain will be worth more than the bike.

someone will probably angle grind away part of the bike and nick the
    chain instead.

Depending on how big the pillar is, and how close you can get to it,
you might consider getting a shackle lock instead - something like
    http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/309/17123

We used to have one (slightly wider) which came with a carrier that
    fitted behind the number plate.

You may find they'll do discounts for members of UKRM.

Kids carry croppers these days and they have no problems getting past
Abus and Oxford chains. While something is better than nothing, don't
think that most chains will stop kids for long, never mind organised
    adults.

Not according to the Almax site.

He might get a short chain and lock for the original price, but the
0.7m is useless for what he intends. Looks like a chain only would be
    do-able.

The weight isn't too much of an issue since I'll leave it attached to
the pillar in the car park. It's only for overnight parking at my home.

The YouTube vid that someone posted was a bit of an eyeopener. I saw
another video there on how 50% of locks can be "Bump Keyed".

Think I'll just buy myself an Alsation instead.

Yes, nobody will go near your bike if you tie Ace to it.
