    I have a lockset for a 1985 Honda Shadow VT-500c.
    Lock code is A62.
Need the 5-digit code so I can cut a key.

Yes, the local locksmith will happily push the button
on his machine for $25. That ain't gonna happen.
Building a bike outa spare parts is turning into a
financial disaster. Gotta cut corners where I can.

Anybody got a code book...and a desire to help?
    Thanks, mike
    return address is valid

  2. Nope. Choose another locksmith. Here, the standard charge is £6 for a
key (call it 10 bucks) or two for £10.

  3. Here the locksmith charges $25 for if he has to
pick the lock. $5 if you give him a key code.

  4. How much does the dealer want?

dealer doesn't do keys. they send me to the locksmith
    who wants $25.

Have had some interesting times on alt.locksmithing.
    Interesting...not helpful times.
Somebody did finally send me the key numbers, but I can't
make 'em work. Probably my error in reverse-engineering
the depth numbers from another key; but I wouldn't be at all
surprised to learn that someone sent me a bogus key code to
yank my chain. Naw...nobody would do that...would they? ;-(
I'll just keep on filing...I got all winter...

  6. Al the Honda dealers I know make keys from codes. I would try another
dealer. If the code isn't right then your only choice is a locksmith.
