This was my first NEC show - never been before, but thought I'd have a looksee, this year..... Got there later than expected. Had a pint and good long natter with Whinging Courier and SO. Met Big J - had a natter. Strichy wasn't there.... Good natter with Nick Saunders. Man's completely bonkers! Got a lid, glubs anna paddock stand. Saw some very nice old Brit bikes. Apart from that.......... What a fucking disappointment! Bike displays were boring. Strikes me that people were fawning over a slight change in a decal for 2005 as if it were the second coming! Not much in the way of bargains to be had. Did the whole thing in 4 hours at a *very* leisurely pace. If I'd have gone just to see the bikes, a half hour would have done it...... Conclusion: Not worth the admission fee. £2.50 would be closer to the mark. If you're wavering, or travelling more than an hour or so, save yer money! I'd only recommend anyone to go if they really feel they have to. -- Cheers! Fr Jack 96 Tiger. FRJACKUKRM AT GMAIL DOT COM
Fr Jack says... It's much better when you're working there. I rarely look at the bikes tbh. Good. It's about time the trade woke up and realised that heavily discounting at the shows really fucks it up for everyone who runs a bike shop, for about 3 months of a very tight year. At most shows all you'll see retailed is the stuff that no-one wants to buy in their shops anyway.
Ta, I was wavering having had a mate tell me he sauntered around in approx 3 hours and left disappointed. I shan't bother, got a fair bit of work to do so I'll just stay here instead.
I went, for the first time, last year and was also disappointed. Drinking lots of lager with everyone else made up for it though. Pasties were expensive.
you're not wrong there, I did the first two 'quiet' days BMF Show is the place to go for bargains and last year the cheeky fuckers even charged for the Show Guide! or get a free pass
Helium says... The RV is the slightly older model, now replaced by the SV. The RV retailed at 210 quid when I worked for HG. The SV retails for 220.
Heh. We (Me and Mrs. Courier) got there at 8.30 and were first in the queue ) One of the Oxford ones? The £50 jobbies? They looked good for the money. I never found any leather jeans that were worth having and the only ones I did think I might buy were £250 so I though bugger to that. Yeah. I don't know why, but I thought the whole thing would've been on two floors and the lack of traders giving free stuff away was noticeable. I got a few stickers and a load of invites to websites to spend a load of dosh that I could've saved by buying it there. I also looked and failed. AOL Good for the experience though. I'll probably go again but I'd rather check out a few of the more niche ones next year before I venture back to the NEC.
Hmm, yes, you were noticeable by your absence. Still, at least I saw BigJ. Re the rest of the show... not worth the money tbh. Bike I liked best from merely sitting on was the R1 - felt perfect. Bikes I liked least were the Ducatis - I dunno who they're built for, but it ain't me! They are awful. However, didn't find anything that I'd trade the R6 in for, which is nice. Tried to get a new helmet, but failed miserably - couldn't find one to fit properly :-( All in all, a day out (albeit rather expensive).
Beelzebub@Work says... You must have a weird shaped head. You're the only person I know who fits a Suomy Gunwind perfectly.
