    Worth reading? After reading the Wikipedia entry about Reich, I'd have
    to agree.

    From http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgone_energy:

    --------------------------------begin quote---------------------------
    During Reich's exile in USA he developed a mystic pseudoscience of
    "Reichian Therapy", where Freud's concept of the libido has been
    transformed into orgone, a form of universal power (an "energy field",
    similar to qi or other semi-mystical energy concepts). Orgone was an
    unproven form of energy first described by Reich in the late 1930s. Reich
    characterized orgone as a type of primordal cosmic energy, blue in colour,
    which is omnipresent and responsible for such things as:

    * weather,
    * the color of the sky,
    * gravity,
    * the formation of galaxies,
    * and good orgasms (the sense of well-being felt after orgasm was
    supposed by Reich to be due to the orgasm optimising the flow of orgone
    energy throughout the body.

    Reich even speculated that this energy might be used for propulsion of UFOs.
    --------------------------------end quote-----------------------------

    Yep, the Septics drove him nuts... ;-)

    Seriously though, careful reading of The Mass Psychology of Fascism
    (which was written long before he went dooloally), coupled with a
    suspension of disbelief when he uses whacky terms reveals one of the
    most cogent elucidations of the socio-political development of interwar
    Europe I've ever read. The guy indubitably had one of the great
    independent minds of the early C20th.
    Don't throw out the baby with the bath water...

    Also From http://en2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgone_energy:

    Reich's earlier books, in particular his book The Mass Psychology of
    Fascism, is regarded as somewhat scientifically valuable. However,
    during his later career, Reich subsequently revised his older books to
    include the orgone concepts. As these are generally regarded
    unscientific, scholars of psychology and sociology prefer to refer to
    earlier, German, editions of his works...

    maybe you should have read a bit more of the wikipedia entry you
    selectively quoted.....

    Mark Olson <> spouted the following in

    Reich began experimenting with the use of orgone accumulators on cancer
    patients. In the fifteen cases he worked with between 1941 and 1943, all
    were in advanced stages of cancer. Three of them died in the time
    expected by their doctors, six of them lived five to twelve months
    longer than expected, and the rest were still alive when Reich published
    his paper on them in 1943. In all cases he claimed that their pain was
    greatly alleviated and their use of morphine was lessened or eliminated
    altogether.

  12. Maybe it was a loss-leader type of deal. Sweeten the sales of some
    flying machines or artillery by throwing in some nasty stuff the US
    couldn't keep around any more.

    Every good despot should have some.

    And Bush could be described as a despot since he's unelected.

    Less a democracy more a HiJackracy.
