  7. I've had a couple of major accidents and a couple of life-threatening
infections. The last one (12 years ago) took me nearest to croaking it
but funnily enough it didn't bother me all that much at the time.

  11. <reads rest of thread> FFS Gower, you couldn't settle for a quiet life
could you? Sit down and do some knitting and make sure you heal
    properly.
Biology innit - it flicks all sorts of psycholgical switches. If it
doesn't do it properly (for various values of properly) then you'd
realise Death is lurking and either deal with it or hide in a
    cupboard.

WTF do you think humanity invented stories, myth, religion for?

  13. Oh, Death was lurking allright. If my blood results were anything to go
by; the doc told me I had about a fortnight left. A week later I was in
a so-called isolation ward being so-called barrier nursed. That was a
    total joke.

So; ten days or so into the last fortnight and I woke up one morning
feeling on top of the world. Weak as a kitten, but fucking amazing. I
knew I wasn't dying anymore. Took months to get back to full strength.

The odd thing about the whole experience was that I became aware I was
totally missing my libido. It had just vanished. Strange feeling
altogether, not wanting to shag anybody that moved.

You're fucking lucky the surgeons didn't slip on all that blood and injure
    themselves.

Indeed, they may have sued me. Come to think of it, they may have kept me
alive so they could sue me late.

I woke up in the gutter a few years ago, and I was /completely/ relaxed.

    Probably concussion...

  20. In uk.rec.motorcycles, muddy amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
I've had a couple, not bike related though.

The scary part is not knowing you've gone until you come round again.

I felt sorry because of who I would've left behind and the circumstances
    in which it would've happened.
