    Hello Wessie.

Thanks for letting me stay and go out for a couple of hundred miles
worth of bimbles with yourself, it was very much appreciated and Near
Death Experiences involving tractors with brown muddy blades sticking
out 18" wider than thhe vehicle itself will certainly help my future
    road positioning.

    Thanks.

BGN emerged from their own little world to say
Yes, you definitely need to work on your right hand corner positioning.
Hopefully John Deere and his harrow will etch a permanent reminder.

    I'll mail the invoice tomorrow.

Did you get wet? It pissed down for the last 12 miles of my journey home.

Came over the Severn Bridge just before 3.30pm, started pissing down
just before the Malpas Tunnel. *Serious* amounts of wet stuff on the
roads - we were splashing through a good couple of centimeters of water
at times. Cleared up pretty much as we came up the valleys.

900 miles since Tuesday evening. I'm fucking knackered now.

Poof. 900 miles in a day might be knackering.

How was the trip? Any places to recommend?

Heh. Don't know why I feel so knackered - probably something to do with
lots of beer, lots of good food and the VFR being absolutely fucking
loaded with panniers, top-box, tank-bag and pillion. That, and the
really shitty run from Poole to here.
It was fantastic. Been there before, though, so know a bit about the
    area.

Highlights - D999 south from Villedieu. D-something from Sourdevant
(ISTR), the coastal road from Mont St. Michel via Granville upwards.

Things to see - the Caen memorial. Excellent exhibition / museum of WWII
through Cold War history. Granville seems to be a really decent beach
type place to go - lots of people swimming in the sea. Will have to try
    this next time.

Hotel was as good as I remembered it (Le Fruitier from a TOG Tour), but
the food expensive - so went to a back street friterie all 4 nights -
excellent moules-frite avec creme, awesome steak (absolutely massive),
great ostrich steak and, apparently, a decent goat's cheese salad.

Downside was that beer is *fucking* expensive. Don't expect much change
    from £3.50 / 500ml in the bars.

Next year is definitely the 'big one' - Santander to Roscoff.

But we have Portugal to do in October first - renting a CB500 again.

Why do all UKRM posts have to resort to some sort of pissing contest?

It's the way of the place.

ps. I did 900 miles in 3 days going to Cornwall and back on a V-Strom.

Reminds of when Big Tony and I were doing training in Wales - around the
corner to find the big red tractor in the road - never have the words "stop
in the distance you can see" made as much sense as they did during that
    moment :)

I've done more in 5 days and I've done less in 5 days. It was merely an
observation that I'm feeling knackered now.

I spent the trip behind wessie's GS and improving my cornering. I now
"hunger for a view" and move to the right of the lane when going
around a left hander, and aim to do the same on right handers. For
some reason I stay out a bit too far to the right when I'm on a right
hander which forever etched this moment in my mind:

Going around wet, muddy right-hand bend on narrow-ish 2-way road,
around bend comes a tractor, "I'm further to the right of the lane
than I should be, but I'm okay as the tractor isn't all that wide." <1
second passes> While progressing through the bend notice that the
tractor has a small trailer of some kind attached. Think nothing more
of it. ...Something brown is stucking out of the side, nearly two
feet into the my lane... ...Which happens to be a massive blade of
    some kind. "Bugger"

Apparently this post has nothing to do with motorbikes and should have
been marked as being off topic. Please consider yourself censored and
    don't do it again.
Thank the retard known as Teal'**** for pointing it out.

Very scenic route with extra scenary - the journey was the point of the
    trip, not the destination.

Blimey that's more than I've done in three months on the K5.

We stayed there a few years ago on our way down to
Saint-Jean-de-Monts. We arrived Friday evening and every shop in the
    town was shut by 8pm.

Were you in Stratford earlier? Saw a K5 like yours parked up with an
    Arai attached to the back.

Enjoyable ride down there with some bloke on an S reg blue 9R. Found
out that the GSXR will out drag one when you get up to silly speeds
from a rolling start. Not bad for a lardy old tourer.
