twas nice enough. bloody quick. extremely tiny (smaller than the R1)
but overall, for riding position comfort I think I prefer the R1.

does this mean I'm more or less of a girl?

What time on Tuesday? I pass by WGC on my way home from work and could
possibly give you a lift to CC's to pick it up.

its not a problem of getting to CC - there's a direct train to
Letchworth. its a problem of getting to work in the morning.

They've ordered some bits which should be there Tuesday but I'm not
going to risk going to WGC [1] in case they don't come in and I then
have the hassle of getting home. I'll wait til its definitely done and
then work out a way of getting there to pick it up.

[1] three buses and a train.

    Holy shit.

Shims x 16 at about 8 quid each.
    Tensioner about 30 quid
    Head Bearings about 20 quid

    labour... 6 hours...

Sometimes I understand why I do my own work. Of course the downside is
it takes me 9 months to complete a service on a bike.

    7 quid each
they said this would add about a ton to the bill
and its because Andy did his own servicing that the bike needed this.

    Cool, close.
Hmm, I suppose if you add the blades to the mechanism it would come in
    around here.
Is this including the labour? 'cos if that's the parts cost I'd be
    asking serious questions.
No, I have to correct that... it's because Andy *didn't* do the
servicing when he serviced his bike.

Not, of course that I'd be keen to do the shims on a 9r; I looked at
mine and thought that getting the cam cover off would need about 8
knuckles worth of skin smeared over the frame.

    That's more like it.
It had the normal oil/filter changes, new plugs, new air filter, new
brake fluid, new coolant plus disposables as required but the shimming
    looked a bit nasty.

Well when I looked it didn't seem much worse than on the ZXR750 except
for access to the shims. Still shimming's optional isn't it?

Heh. Well until you dump the bike on some unsuspecting mug...

Which makes me wonder if having a yen for a cheap 9r/ZXR750 is a good
    idea.

It is optional on a gixer engine[1], but not on ZXs.

[1] One of the most concientious technicians I know tells me he's only
ever had to change shims on three gixer engines in all the time he's
been servicing them. Gixers just never need reshimming. He also said
that all ZX engines will need regular reshimming until they have about
30K, then the number needing doing will drop significantly at each
    check.

    I think so.
    you could be right there.
then again if I'd known the total bill would come to £799 I might have
considered letting him lose some of the skin on his knuckles.

still its done now. I'll know exact costs when I pick it and the bill
    up tomorrow.

Well, looking at the list I'm really not surprised.

Still, looking on the bright side think how much money Andy saved by not
    servicing it over the years...

    Jesus fucking wept!

I bought the Bandit outright, did all the work needed for the MOT -
which included discs pads and s/head bearings, insured, MOT'd and taxed
it then put a fairing on it, all for 100 quid less than that.
