I need some wheel nuts for the Corvette. The studs are 20 threads per
inch, & measure 11.2mm across the top of the threads. According to
http://tinyurl.com/2k7axz (ebay link) the nuts should be 7/16" UNF, but
a guy I've been speaking to at a wheel nut place[1] reckons an 11.2mm
stud is 1/2" UNF, not 7/16". Does anyone know for certain?

I could take one of the old nuts to my local friendly fastener
supplier, but won't get a chance to do that for a few days.

    7/16" = 11.1125mm, so I'd say he's wrong.

You're entitled to a full refund of the charges involved in this

    12.7mm is 1/2"
    11.2mm is 0.440"
    7/16" is 0.4375"
    7/16" UNF is 20tpi

I think your guy at the wheel place is a dickhead.

Well as it's a yank tank, there's no real alternative. Some metric fasteners
come close, but I've yet to find the PERFECT replacement for an Imperial
    size in metric.

But 16mm's not exactly a common spanner size, is it?

    The operative word being "close".
    And again.
I'd put wheel nuts in the category of "not something I want coming loose"
though. Maybe they're not under a huge load, but I want my nuts fitting
perfectly. As would most blokes I suspect.
"Pretty close" still isn't a perfect fit though, is it?

I've got a few 16mm spanners and sockets that regular use and they're not a
good fit on a bolt that requires a 5/8 spanner.
