Well I'd start with "Raleigh" , but after that I'd be guessing :0) -- Alex "I laugh in the face of danger" "Then I hide until it goes away" www.drzoidberg.co.uk www.sffh.co.uk www.upce.org.uk

It was somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember (David Thompson) saying something like: Ah, the infamous Raleigh Zippo. Tended to burst into flames at the slightest excuse, usually just after moving away into traffic and causing untold embarrassment to owners. The problem got so bad that Raleigh, instead of issuing a recall (unknown in those days) sent every registered owner a pair of fireproof riding trowzis. 1947 was the peak year of Zippo outbreaks; are you sure he wasn't one of the casualties of whooaaarrrggggh! -- Dave GS 850 x2 / SE 6a SbS#6 DIAABTCOD#16 APOSTLE#6 FUB#3 FUB KotL OSOS#12? Errm, if this is a picture of your new bandit then I may have some information regarding its starting problems.
Heh! Luckily enough, he was a fireman. Tragically for him, he was not. Apparently he received somewhat demonstrably critical injuries in the line of duty
Wish it were - probably worth more than my Bandit [1]; it was my grandad's. [1] Which is blue[1] and has always been blue [2] Just so you don't confuse me with the one with the ex-Pink Bandit.
(David Thompson) wrote in Don't confuse the officially taxable hp rating based on bore area with bhp measued at the rear wheel. It prolly made about 18-22 brake horse power. Enough to get you up to a tooth chattering 75mph or so.
(David Thompson) wrote in About 5k in tidy order. Wonder what that cylindrical object below the saddle is in your Grandads pic. Not a coffee cup holder thats for sure. Not a standard item anyway.
That would be the reservoir for the automatic thrunging sprocket lubrication system. It was an option on Raleighs, but woe betide the owner who didn't take it up! Copied from an earlier Harley-Pugh item, iirc.
An early snot oiler eh? Well, possible innit. Looks more like a left hand knorbled grunge pump to me though. The compulsory extra. Car indicators should be like that. Sure it wasn't blind Pugh?
