My ZX-10R - Where do I stand?

    Hi,

    I purchased a ZX-10R on the 24th July.

I noticed shortly after purchasing it (about 1 week) that there was a
coolant leak that appeared to be coming THROUGH the crankcase. I took it to
the dealer for the first service this weekend, but they refused to ride it
because of the recall on the front wheel. That is fair enough. They put it
on a dyno and ran it, but could not see the leak coming from anywhere. The
service guy at the dealer did say It appears as if though it is not spraying
onto the crankcase, but rather coming through it.

There is coolant flowing through the engine casing just above where the leak
appears to originate (Had a good look at a diagram of the coolant flow in
    the service manual).

    So now my question is:

What should I do now? I mean this is a pretty serious fault with the bike,
and being that I have had it for 2 and 1/2 weeks, and already I need a new
crank case as well as a new front wheel, I am not happy.

I do not believe that having a new crankcase fitted by the dealer is a
suitable option. It is a complete engine rebuild obviously - that is not
acceptable after 2 and 1/2 weeks of ownership is it?

Am I entitled to my money back or a new machine? I need this to get to work
and back, and it is not suitable for the purpose surely?

Anyone had a similar experience, and what is the best course of action to
    take now?

    Thanks for any advice.

Apologies for the large spacing between paragraphs - I am not sure why that
    happened.

Nips all this time to catch up.
Nor would I be. I would be writing to the dealer (*writing*, not
phoning) saying that I want a new vehicle, the existing one not being of
    merchantable quality.

I agree.........make sure you are clear that you are "rejecting" the bike as
it is not of merchantable quality. It may also be useful to differentiate
between the reason for the rejection (coolant problems) and the front wheel
recall (which I assume, although not happy, you are ok to sit out and wait
    for a replacement).

Put everything in writing and send recorded delivery.

Hope it all works out ok.

Yes, I am still riding it to work every day and waiting on my new wheel.
Yes, actually, I do want to keep the bike. The bike is a pleasure to ride -
spinning up the wheel in the pouring rain is great fun. I am a man by the
way, and I really don't have trouble riding the bike, but thanks for your
    concern.

But anyway, is there some problem with me being annoyed about the fact that
my bike requires a new engine after 2 and 1/2 weeks?

Yeah but mate, you ride a cranky old Zx9 like no one else can. It doesn't
_matter_ that you're slower than everyone else, if they knew what it took to
get that lardy old tourere moving they would respect you a bit. BUT at least
_you'll _have that satisfaction. And you can always enter it in the Classic
    TT.

To be honest the ZX-9R is still a really good looking bike, and I bet it
    doesn't hang around either.
