Bear emerged from their own little world to say
Those 2 lanes on the old bridge seem very narrow at times.

Shap was my worst. The cross wind was so fierce I struggled to steer the
bike through a curve on a 3 lane motorway. Then the wind dropped and as you
say, my steering input was too great which took me into another lane.

The new Severn Crossing is great whilst over the water as those baffles
work well. The elevated section to get on/off on the Welsh side is a
    complete bastard when windy.

That'd be because the TRX has a really crap rearwards weight
distribution stock, add MORE weight on the back and there's nothing on
    the front.

The first must do mods for a TRX are longer wishbones or slide the forks
through, and stick a pair of R1 bluespots on instead of the tokicos

So basically from this I have learnt that all luggage is evil and we should
all ride with ducks attached to our motorcycles.

    Top stuff.

You're right - I thought you were defending topboxes. My bad.

Panniers are still the best solution, overall, though. Tank bags get
the weight in the right place, but are a bit too small. And they tend
to scuff the tank paintwork anyway.

Bealach na Baa last year was terrifying.
I think I've mentioned this before, but on my first trip to Germany I
was trundling (120-130) down an A-bahn, two up on the GPz750R, when we
    crossed a viaduct.

We started crossing the bridge in lane 3, and exited on the shoulder.

One of the 'OSM regulars (Gasman IIRC) has a tail pack type jobbie that
looks about the size of a pillion passenger. Bloody huge it is.

    Just thought I'd mention that.

    Now, what was I doing......
