My search for a GPZ900R.....

  1. Is leading me to *this*

I've been very, very picky in this hunt, on the basis that there are
zillions of Rs out there, and the right one will come up sooner or
later. The early A2 in Scotland was *nearly* it.

I think this one might go for as little as £1600, given that ones I've
been watching (albeit not late A8s) have struggled to break four
figures, and failed to hit reserve.

Paging the Geordies (Colin, anyone else?). If I win this, can I bum a
bed for the night before the Long Ride Home?

  3. Yes and no. It's the same bike, though as with many classics, the Mark
One is often The One To Have. The A8 model is generally acknowledged as
being a much better owning proposition (17" front wheel and no
    anti-dive).
It's a bit like the Jota: do you want a Mark One Iron Maiden[1] bike or
a late 120 degree crank model? Both have their proponents.

  4. Ooh, that looks nice.

Had an earlier model engine in the outfit for a season, supposedly
unburstable motors with really strong bottom ends and (were) good for
tuning the balls off. Only got rid when we were given an ex Mick Grant
    Suzuki 1000 engine ... ;)

It definitely looks worth having a look at, and if it doesn't go
    stratospheric on price ... ;)

    Ooh nice.

Mind you, if it were me I'd be looking for an A1 or A2, just
'because'. But I realise that the A8 is the better machine,
especially with the 17" front wheel.

Sure, but Redcar's a fair hike from here, about 60 miles or so, and not
a particularly nice route either. Colin's a bit closer, though.

Whoops, sorry, not paying attention. Actually, I mostly tend to avoid
    any thread about bikes.

Anyway, yes of course you're welcome to stay. The bike can go in the
garage. Can arrange lift from station/airport as well.

    But he'd have to pay!

Still, thinking about it, he probably will make his own way to Redcar.

  11. Price is soaring above my budget anyway. £1750 already and a day and a
    half to go.
