As per your request, I am forwarding you the message Mr. Claudio Domenicali,
the Ducati Corse Director, wrote for the passionate fans who express their
    comments:

    Dear H,

Thank you very much for writing to us and expressing your opinion about the
decision to replace Troy Bayliss with Carlos Checa as 2005 Ducati Marlboro
Team factory rider. I can assure you that the decision was a difficult one
to make and it only came about after lengthy consideration. I would now like
to explain the reasons why we took this decision.

Troy has certainly been one of the most important riders ever for Ducati. He
raced for seven years with us, including five with our factory teams.
Together we obtained fantastic successes. We are well aware of his
abilities, his courage and his generosity and for this reason the decision
to replace him was really difficult.

We know that Troy is capable of excellent performances, but unfortunately in
MotoGP he rarely produced them in the races, like the last GP of the season
in Valencia. The first person not to be satisfied with the results obtained
in the last two years was Troy himself, by nature a successful and tough
    rider.

Probably after seven years of collaboration, the time had come to go our
separate ways and find new stimuli which, we are certain, will be positive
    for all concerned.

In his place, we have chosen Carlos Checa, a rider we consider to be
underrated, and who is very proud to join our team. We believe that his
great experience, both in 500 and MotoGP, can bring considerable benefits to
    our team.

Carlos probably also had been far too long with the same team and we believe
that the change will have positive effects, as for Troy.

His first test with the Desmosedici was really encouraging, and even though
we cannot make any official declarations because Carlos is still under
contract with Yamaha and only thanks to their permission was he able to
begin testing with us before January 2005, I can inform you that all the
team is really satisfied with the work carried out by Carlos at Valencia. He
proved to be immediately on the pace (on day 1 he set an excellent 1'34.0,
just two-tenths of a second slower than Troy's best race lap, and on day 3
he got his time down to 1'33.7 before the test was interrupted by rain),
showing extraordinary professionalism. In the three days at Valencia he
never tried the new components that we are testing for 2005 (we wanted him
to get used to the GP4), and his best times were set with race tyres on
which he had already done several laps. This confirms that he was not aiming
for outright performance but gaining confidence with the bike on used tyres,
something which is vitally important in races. We knew that he is a rider
who is not particularly loved by the fans, but I can assure you that he is a
lot better than what he appears from the outside.

Furthermore let us not forget that both Loris and Troy have never ridden a
MotoGP bike other than the Desmosedici. We also think that for this reason
Carlos represents a valid choice. He was, together with very few other
riders, the first to race with four-stroke bikes from the start of 2002 and
his experience with another MotoGP, together with that of the 'old' 500 GP,
will surely be useful for the development of our project.

The 2004 season began uphill, but we concluded it with two podiums conquered
by both our riders on two very different tracks: the Desmosedici is becoming
competitive once again and is repaying us for all the efforts being made by
    everyone in Ducati Corse.

It was the best possible way to conclude a season that began with a bike
that was just too new, and which we succeeded in improving throughout the
year between the races. These are errors of 'youth' that we will do
everything in our powers not to repeat. Let us not forget that we only had
one season in MotoGP behind us and the level of this championship, which has
always been very high both on a bike and a rider level, in 2004 was truly
    incredible.

All this has been possible above all thanks to the affection and the passion
with which people like yourself, our fans, follow us.

It is not our intention to disappoint you: our aim is to do the utmost
possible for our Ducati, to be competitive in every race and give you the
emotions that we believe only the red bikes from Borgo Panigale can give.

You will see that Carlos, just like Loris last year, will quickly enter
your hearts and will not disappoint you.

    Kind regards,

    Claudio Domenicali
