I got a 3 person hiker dome tent made by Timber Line

    In big w i paid $48 bucks

    http://members.dodo.net.au/radburn/Tent/index.html

Its compact enough to take on the bike

Now ive gota work out how to get a compact but warm sleeping bag & some
cooking gear, maybe those disposable butain burners as well.

Seems to fit on the rack bag pretty well with a couple of ocky straps.

  5. For summer bike touring, yer, should be fine. Bottom line, though, is how
much does it weigh bundled? Hopefully less than the 3.2kg that is my
    ski-touring tent ...
You can't use the words "warm" and "compact" when you're talking about
sleeping bags, unless you're talking about a cheap synthetic fibre bag
(which *won't* be warm). Get a good down bag that splits the feathers
up into cells, and make sure the outer bag has compression straps so you
can crunch it down as small as possible. Use a silk sleeping bag liner as
well, as - no bulshit - it adds a couple of degrees of warmth to your bag
and feels oh so nice against your skin. You'd only
need a -5 bag for those cold nights inland?

As for the butane burner, forgeddit. The butane tanks are bulky and
expensive. Instead, go for a shellite stove (shellite in layman's terms is
just unleaded petrol without the dye in it) as it will cook stuff faster,
and better, and may just help you get to the next petrol station in a
reserve tank snafu. Forget the metho stoves, they're too slow. Also forget
the Big Ws and have a look at the serious outdoor sports stores
    (www.paddypallin.com.au, www.mountaindesigns.com.au, www.bogong.com.au or
the soft adventure shop at www.kathmandu.co.au). The stuff they sell is
light, compact, durable and generally speaking, easy to use. My Coleman
stove I use back-country ski touring weighs less than 200 grams and yet is
gentle enough to cook a nice rum bread and butter pudding. A litre of fuel
    lasts about five days.

Now's the time to buy in the off season.

This is my '1' man "cycle 2 tent".. supposed to be 2 person (cant fit
queensize airbed in without touchin sides), but its great with 1, or
    real cozy with 2..

Smaller than sleeping bag to packup, 1 pole, 6 pegs and you can sleep
if it aint raining. or another 6 pegs if its rainin for the fly.

$100 at Rays.. Had it out in 2 REAL pissin down storms, and dry as a
    nuns...

No need to shout, Smee. Everyone else knew what he was saying and who
    he was saying it to.

    Bored?

    Go for a ride.
