    Just paid a deposit on a (soon to be mine) Kawasaki KR1S. I'm so fucken
    excited! I'll be picking it up during the week. New engine 400km ago,
    starts easy, and is as light as a feather. Needs a few things for
    roadworthy (indicator cover, Speedo needs fixing), but she goes well! (All
    she needs is a name)

    Heading up to winton for the hangmore ride day next weekend, which should
    be an absolute blast on this thing. Hopefully its not too hot as i heard
    some strokers dont like working in the heat.

    An amusing story from the seller, he was riding it, stopped at a set of
    traffic lights, and a couple of guys stuck their head out of the car and
    asked "Hey mate, is that the new R1?".

    My KR1S never had an issue in the heat at Winton, or Shit Creek etc..

    You will enjoy.. Theres a few good easy things you can do to get more
    neddies if you want.

    Congrats and welcome to the club - the little buggers are an absolute scream on
    a tight road or a racetrack. Crap for commuting on :)

    The (cant remember what they are called) Square things on side of the
    barrels (held on with 1 bolt each end), make 1-2cm 'spacers' thus
    making the volume of that thing bigger..

    Bore out the carbs, but thats old, I think it was 135 mains stock
    change them AFTER plug chop after first mod, I think I had 130's in
    mine..

    The racers in Pommie land used to jet em with (depending on atmos and
    state of tune) 140's from memory. I've got a set of 138's which didnt
    help stop mine running like shit. I think some people were fitting 38mm
    carbs off CR125's or something too. There used to be a great web forum
    over at bravenet but I cant find it now. One bloke on there bored his
    out to 300cc, reckoned the 2nd gear power wheelies were awesome...Till
    he cracked the barrel...Twice...Went back to 280cc after that.

    Have fun, make sure all the powervalve linkages are tight. Mine (KR-1
    not S) had been loose for a long time before I got it and wore most of
    the way through a powervalve. It snapped when I was replacing the
    screw, 4 days after I bought it :-( Then the voltage regulator failed 2
    days after I'd replaced the powervalves, powervalve seals, pistons+rings
    and little end bearings.

    That blew up the tacho and two CDI units (the first one was while the
    bike shop worked out that the voltage reg was stuffed, fortunately they
    copped it on the chin and paid for a replacement CDI). Oh and then the
    water pump seal shat itself, but dont worry, you can replace it without
    removing the RH side crankcase cover... Its the only bike I ever owned
    that I was glad to see the back of, some people just thrash and crash,
    (the gearbox oil capacity was worn off the side of the motor thanks to
    it going down the road) poor little two strokes and I didnt have the
    cash to do it justice. Hope yours is a good'un.
