Must be chapter two she is using then because this bit seems to me to be
about the early impressions of the garden and comes across as quite
upbeat. Although I suspect you are more inclined to go looking for
    depressing bits than I am.

Has it got space ships and horrible hairy purple alien monsters dripping
green sticky goo and firing orange laser beams eating half dressed
    ladies?

Au contraire, it is always a help when folks respond to posts. Even if
it isn't directly helpful it is the thought what counts imho.

Look, it's a *secret* garden, you can't expect them to just find it in
    chapter 2.
    Not nowadays no.

It's actually a very uplifting story and I can see why in the
circumstances you describe it would resonate with her.
I shall try and wander post office wards tomorrow

Halla I'll actually post that book that's been sitting next to the
keyboard so I don't forget to post it as well.
    That's the sequel.

Don't spoil it and tell me the story, I am going to be reading it for
    myself soon.

That'll be one the fucking book club haven't read.

Indicating passage of time by artistic use of time-lapse greenfly,
    that's what you want.
