My Honda actin' up again.

My Honda would not ''start'' when we were in Jefferson, remember.
It just wouldn't turn over, and after checking all I knew to check, and
while I apparently looked ''bedazzled''. Some remember the story about
the biker pulls up, and helps me, by squeezing the wad of wires and etc,
and tells me to push the start button, and it busts right off.
    /
He told us, that he'd had this happen to him and it turned out to be
corrosion in the wiring area around the fuse box etc.
    /
We make it home, next day I check and do this and that, and it seemed
okay for a day or two, but Wednesday did it again
    /
This time, my sonN'law, Randy was helping me investigate. Well sir, We
thought it was this and that, but I noticed that the button would work
when I pushed up, and in, and it'd crank.. Like push it in an awkward
    like manner, and it'd start.
    /
So, it turned out to be the dern ''start button on the handle bar,
afterall!! Brother!! We could mash it a certain way, and it started
    each and everytime.

Today, I ordered a newun, for $75, @ my Honda Store.

The kicker to my Bike Tale, is when I was
squeezing the wad of wiring, and pushing the starter, it started! But it
seems it was just a coincidence. I look back on it, and each time, on
our trip, that it wouldn't turn over, unless I grabbed the wires, was
because I was standing on the right side, and with my left hand reach
    down and
do that, and with my right hand push the button, but do it in a bind,
and it would start. (I'm guessing some here)

We thought the fellow who helped us, was a genius, for telling me to
mess with the wires and hit the button and it started, but it turns out
to simply be coincidental, ONE of those Oddities, that's hard to
    explain.
    /
More than likely, had he not showed up, I would have did this and that,
and surely after an hour or so, realize, the starter button, would work,
    when awkwardly
engaged, AlThough, Indirectly, the friendly biker samaritan saved me, &
I am still thankful to him....... Oh Me......whatA-deal.

I recall your previous post. I was going to try and make a similar
suggestion, but I couldn't locate the topic.

I have a similar problem on my Valkyrie when it get hot weather,
and the bike sits in the sun. Although the bikes are different, it's
probably the same starter button, or at least, the same flawed
    design.

Glad you discovered the culprit. Just as FYI, the Valk problem
    is documented/described here:

---Say Gary, the fellow that stoped to assist was riding a Valk, that's
another coincidence, that your Valk had similar problems.
Would your Valk start (turn over) at times, and not at other times? Like
    I described?
    Thanks Gary for your inPut.....

All the Valks(AFAIK) have the starter button issue. That's probably
the reason the correction is documented on the reference site. <g>

Yeah, when mine gets hot, like sitting in the sun, the starter button
acts up. The first time it happened, I thought the battery was dead,
but it really wasn't too old so it seemed unlikely.

I also could feel the starter engage intermittently, so I was pretty
sure it was a connection issue. I just kept trying the starter until I
discovered that various manipulations would give various results.
(much like your description). I've not ever replaced it, as I'm now
accustomed to the flaw, and just accommodate.

I also had a similar "failure to start" problem that was caused by a
loosened negative battery post connection. It did take a while to
locate that problem while in a parking lot.

    Thanks,

    Gary

aint too funny. But, better than on the side of any road.

You are right, my starter button, could last indefinately, but, I
ordered me a nuthern, and shoot, I'll just do that, I'll not haveta
worry that it'll (some time) , just not co'operate.! And that will be
    the last of that!
