Ha, exactly the same problem I had on the rear brake of my GSXR600
track bike. Ended up buying a new caliper as the bolts to split the
old one were seized as well.

It was you, man - but it's a Corvette, innit. Hey ho, I always get it
    wrong.

D'oh! Wasn't axle bolts either, it was a crossmember bolt. The remains
are still there in the hole, along with half an eazi-out & part of a
drillbit. I may add part of a lefthand drillbit to the party at some
    point.

Exactly the same caliper as the SV650 K1 has, and the RF900, and the
Bandit 600s and 1200s, and just about every Suzuki with a rear disc
    from that era.

    Maybe I've been lucky.

I've never failed to press out the pin on those.. Bit of penetrating oil.
Heat. Bob's your Auntie. Drilling blank end holes was never an issue either.
Caliper off first of course but if you have a couple of widgets to stop the
fluid leaking so loss is minimal and the workshop time reduced.

the rear Brembo corroded on my R-GS after 3 years. BMW part funded a
replacement despite being well outside the warranty period

There is no excuse for corroded in brake pins

No, you're going to have to explain that in more detail please.

You have a pin stuck in a blind hole in a casting. You have unlimited
access to the other side of the casting, and a pair of compasses.

Please explain how you find the centre of the pin. (Forgive me, I'm
    obviously being thick here).

    It's obvious innit?
Find true north with one compass and align the other with the ley
line running through Glastonbury.Mark where they intersect and drill.

So you take one point of the compass and place it on the head of the pin on
the accessible side of the caliper and place the other point of the compass
on a point at the edge of the caliper. You've now flip the caliper over and
place one point of the compass on the corresponding edge of the caliper and
scribe an arc with the other end of the compass. Do this twice using two
different starting points on the "accessible" side and you will then, after
transferring the compass to the "back side" again, have two arcs which
intersect. The intersect point is the other end of the pin. Drill and insert
    drift.
Of just about anyone on here, I'd have thought that you would know about
transferring measurements from one side of an item to the other, being a
machiney type of bloke, so you're forgiven.

How do you accurately locate this corresponding edge?

  14. No, you can get pistons and seals as a set, just not seals on their own.

  15. Oh, right. Didn't know that. Not as bad as I thought: I was under the
impression that the calipers were utterly non-serviceable.
