    Slim to none?

My missus got a parking ticket in a pay and display,
even though she had paid and displayed. We sent the
valid ticket along with the parking ticket to point
out that she had actually paid and got a nice letter
back saying (to paraphrase) "tough shit".

A nice little earner, if ever there was one.

  2. I was once sent a penalty notice for allegedly being parked in street in
    Camden when

    a) I was at work
    b) the bike was parked in Walthamstow
    c) I have never been in the street in question in my life.

The only way to deal with these things is to be polite, factual and to
the point. The interesting aspect to test is to ask them for the
necessary supporting evidence that supports their claim for payment.

The other "trick" is to then ask about the next steps in the appeal
process, what evidence is required for both parties and to ask them to
    provide that.

This shows them that you are serious about contesting the case and they
may then decide to not run the risk of loads of hassle in pursuing you.

A final thought - is there anything in the local press about problems
with the parking enforcement process or the council's contractor. By
doing some research and assessing any "weak spots" you might be able to
find something to your advantage to add to the argument in order to
create "reasonable doubt" as to the integrity of the process.

I had my charge waived after I wrote back in such a manner. I obviously
cannot know how Croydon council and / or their contractor will react.

Lose all the digs (warm office etc) and change it to being totally
factual. Provide details of witnesses to say that you couldnt have
been there at that time - especially if they are a bunch of old bill.
Do the video but hit them on the one point at a time. When you read
the letter it sounds like "I wasnt there - but even if I was then
there are no signs". Just keep it to "I wasnt there and I can prove I
wasnt". Do the video thing etc (ensuring its date stamped etc) but
dont even think of using that yet - you want that in reserve.
Make sure they are aware you will contest the ticket to the end -
rather than just one letter and you will then roll over.

This is a reply to the issuance of a parking ticket I got last week.
Unfortunately I was there, just not there at the time it was stated
"observation started". I'm more than willing to go to County Court if that's
wjhere they want to take me...

But you arent argueing that you weren`t *ever* there. You are being
accused that at X time you did X. You can prove that at X time you
were nowhere near there and can provide witnesses.
