I have spent the last four hours creating the following artwork for my
    ickle baby:

    From:

    http://hayn.gotadsl.co.uk/bike/crash/clocks/gaffer1.jpg

    (gaffer2, 3, 4, 5...)

    To:

    http://hayn.gotadsl.co.uk/bike/crash/clocks/gaffer6.jpg

It looked fantastic until I attacked it with freezer bags. But at
least I bought black gaffer tape.

I need the clocks and the mounts now... as I had to snap bits off of
the clock mounts in order to fix it on with gaffer tape.

Freezer bags! You're getting the hang of it, son :)
Are the bits you snapped off big enough to make "brackets" out of that
you can superglue to the clocks' carcass?

You broke off perfectly good bits of motorbike to make way for gaffer
    tape?

Can you pop round & service my Tiger next time it's due - it needs a
help with its continuing decline into rat-dom.

Do you think now would be the right time to mention Hammerite to the
lad, or is it a little early? I have heard heart rending tales of
terrible trauma caused by premature lustration.

Oh I don't know. I think a little bath sealer round the freezer bag on
the speedo to prevent leakage would be a good thing followed by a
smattering of Hammerite. Just to give it that extra detail you
understand and to get a bit of practice in for more liberal doses later.
You've been talking to my ex girlfriends again, haven't you?

I couldn't get the glass out of the dead clock, so freezer bags were
my only option. Shitty Tesco ones are the way to go, the blue
Waitrose ones just look silly on a bike.

I did consider replacing the bag covering the electrics with a black
    bin bag, but CBA.
Ooh... I hadn't considered superglue, after a 20 mile bimble back from
a friends house via Halfauds (where I failed to find the '02 ER-5
Haynes manual) the clocks are still attached.

I was thinking of filling the gaps with that foam stuff one puts in
walls to fill up gaping holes - should be waterproof. Followed by
some black radiator paint and then some black gloss. Temporary
    measure, naturally.

    BGN says...
I cleared under the seat of the 9R the other day. As well as a one-
piece waterproof suit, a rucksack and two disc locks, there was a roll
of insulating tape, a tightly rolled up length of duct tape and a 35mm
camera film pot filled with earplugs. That's not a bad haul for a
    sportyish bike.

Update: Handlebar looks okay now. I looked at the mountings (?) for
the brake lever, etc and they'd all been pushed about 7mm when they
whacked the ground. I've moved them back and they look fine now,
there may be an ever so slight bend in it, but it hasn't bothered my
riding over the last 40 miles, so I'm prepared to live with it.

I need a new right hand mirror, when it whacked the floor the base of
it (where it connects to the handlebar) has broken, which means I have
to keep pushing it back every 30 seconds when I'm doing more than
about 40. The left mirror was slightly shagged when I dropped the
bike while stationary last month, so I might as well get two... Or
    swap them over.

Is having both a left and right mirror a legal requirement, or can I
just remove the left one and move it to the right?

I can agree to that ;-)

If you swap the left to the right you will find that either the mirror
sits in the centre of the bike (which will enable shaving on the move,
however) or if rotated to the outside, then it will be back to front.
    They're handed, you see.

I don't think mirrors are a legal requirement as such, but you may
find life easier with a right one. Riding with no mirrors means you
have to look around a lot, which is excellent practice, of course.

Get an aftermarket one if you can't get secondhand. Mucho cheapo.

Again, aftermarket for the indies. £15 will get you a pair and there are
some for less than that.I paid £11 for the ones on my bike. Poor quality

    Superglue )
AFAIK, you don't need mirrors at all. If I didn't have to ride round
London all the time I'd get some on mine.
