    Good news. Phew!
    I missed something didn't I? Hope you're ok.
Bugger. What happened? I've been away for a few days...
Indeedy on that. Other stuff can be fixed cheaply, too. It's better
(imo) to "bodge" it now and save your money to fix it properly later
when you'll want maximum money to sell it to move on to your next weapon
    of choice :)
How buggered is buggered? I got round the electrical problems by
injecting bath and gasket sealer into all the visible electrical joints.

    So, what happened?

Have a look at some of the accessory catalogues. They can be had for
around 40 quid if you don't mind them not matching the originals.

Have a look here for just one example:

Gaffer and duck are just brand names. Duck tape is stickier.

I accept no responsibility for that ;) but a battered bike does have
    more character imo :)

I don't really do numbers and I didn't end up in a ditch. I also knew
exactly where the bike was: pissing off down the carriageway.

Cheers. They seem a bit pricey though.

I've been quoted 170ASD [1] for a complete S/H cylinder head, rocker box
and postage from Moscow, that lot want 180GBP + VAT + P&P just for a new
    head.

[1] 170 Australian Dollars = ~£70 It does seem odd buying stuff
    in Russia in ASD.

I had a bit of a to do at speed with a muddy grass verge and bounced,
rolled and skidded 100ft from Mr. Kawasaki.

The police have listed the official cause of the incident as
    "Underestimating the bend."

Personally I'm logging the official cause as Target Fixation - I don't
think I'll bother looking at those marshy sides of the A20 anymore.
    Another cause of it was:

"I wonder what will happen if I just TOUCH the front brake, then I can
    get back on the road."
    <fx. Touches front brake>
<fx. Front wheel stops, rest of bike carries on going>
<fx. *WHACK* as Nick meets the floor @ 60mph and bounces>

    It went something like that.
I'll keep my eyes open for a lovely new tank over the next few months
as the right of it is now matte instead of gloss :)
    Photos on the website above.
Perhaps I was a subject of an isolated gravitational anomaly.

Doubtful tbh but that's what exhaust paint was invented for.

Result! They closed the A20 ;o)

Seriously though, welcome to the club )
Apart from the headlight and clocks it looks ok to me[1]?

Is your helmet completely FUBAR or is it just the visor that took most
    of it?
You're right about the handlebar. Looks a bit bend on the RHS.

    Is it ridable yet?

    Ah, result! :)
Heh, overestimating your talents more like ;)
I've crashed into roundabouts because I thought I was going too fast.
I've been past the same one loads of times and probably much faster. I
just got it into my head I wasn't going to make it and didn't. Nice bit
    of grass surfing that was.
    Aye, it's a corker!
    See [1]
Not really buggered then, just exposed? Best to get it sorted now
though, it took ages to get mine to co-operate.
    Heh :)

[1] You've got all the makings of a rat there.

I've always wanted to get that road closed - I can only wonder/dream
how long the queue was both ways.
Pretty much, I took a big ****-off hammer to the rear brake and now
    that works too.
The visor took the scrape, but looking at the back there's a 2mm deep
scrape in it - it needs replacing. I was thinking about another HJC
SyMax as I've got the dark visor for it, but when I came to halt and
rolled off the road I noticed that the front had flipped up exposing
my beautiful face to the elements (but thankfully I didn't slide to a
stop on it). Looking at it now it locks into place fine, so I assume
that I must have whacked the red open button on the chin during the
    road polishing.

Is this common, do you think?

I've been having a look at some helmets @ TheVisorShoppe, those High
Quality And Inexpensive Nitro Helmets That I Gather Have A Wonderful
Reputation and they look pretty at around £160 with free black visor,
but I'll see if I can try some on first, I'm not sure if my head is
    Nitro shape or not.

Loz, any idea who stocks them in my area?
Took it on a 13 mile Bimble/Hoon yesterday, and it appears to work
perfectly, apart from the rev counter that I may chop off/bodge on
    today.
I'll have a go later on to see if I can make it water proof. But now
I'm off to have someone do scary things to my arm.
    You little tease.

  15. In uk.rec.motorcycles, BGN amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
I hate that road, last time I had occasion to use it it was closed
because a lorry had shed its load of oranges all over the place.

A queue's a queue. Next time you get to the front of a set of roadworks
with a stop-go board, have a look at the disappointment on the
operator's face, speshly if he twizzles it just as you get to the front
    and can whizz off.
No idea. Never had a flip fronted lid but a replacement is the sensible
    option.
The most painful bit is paying for your bike to be repaired :)

Too common with helmets that have the release on the outside.

I've wondered about that with mine. But I guess it depends how the
release button is located on the chinpiece.

While I like the ease of use and convenience of the SyMax, I'm also
pretty fond of my jaw and also my face, so I will probably get one
without a flip up for the time being.
