0642 this morning exactly 22 mins after I got to work and parked the bike
outside the loading dock in Flinders lane in Melbourne some low-life thief
decided that what was mine is now his.
It all started when I got a call on the mobile from a hysterical SWMBO
asking me why the cops had just woken her up knocking on the door and asking
    where I was.
Nice buggers didn't even leave a card or a name to contact, so after a
couple of calls to different stations the mobile rang and on the other end
was a nice constable from St Kilda Police.
It seems the low-life was involved in a chase only a matter of minutes up
Acland St in St Kilda after stealing my bike, but here's the catch...only my
    number plate was involved.
The description of the bike was nothing like mine in colour.
The only good thing to come out of all this is the fact that where I parked
the bike this morning was right under one of the camera's outside the
loading dock and as such the whole incident was caught on video. Thank
    goodness for technology I say.
At least the copper who is looking after the whole situation is a bike rider
too and between us we came to an agreement that I get 5 mins alone in a room
with the low-life first...then they can have him for their 5 mins of fun.

Anyway for those who don't know my bike a description...

2001 British Racing Green Triumph ST Sprint
    Registration Number BK434
    Ventura rack
    Carbon fibre muffler
white "Triple inside" stickers on each side of the fairing underneath the
    pillion seat

Last seen on parked Flinders lane near the corner of William st at the rear
of the AXA Insurance building in Melbourne at 0642 on 17/12/2003

If you have any information please contact me via email and I can pass it on
    to the coppers.

So let this be a lesson to all you out there who think it can't happen to
    me.....IT CAN.

Probably not the best thing to put on a international forum!

Were the keys in it or anythign like that?

If the plate is on another bike, your bike must be within a few blocks
of your work.. Jump in the car and do some laps..

Damned man, i hope they find your bike intact. Let us know how it goes.
b.t.w. what did you have in the way of precautions? disc lock? alarm, anything?
i go down the chain & disclock route myself, i also hope that that combined with what my bike is
    is enough deterrent.

Bad news. If they're running around with your plate on another bike, yours
    mightn't be far away.

Shit Tony, Sorry to hear. I tend to agree with those saying that it may
be close due to the plate being stollen & used so soon.

Heard on Nova this morn a guy ringing in that his R1 had been stollen
overnight from in the city, I didn't catch excactly were, No insurance
either, Bummer, Could these be related?

I park my bike on the corner of flinders lane/Market St which is only like a
block away. Mines a Blue 03 R6. Not good to hear, I might have to look
into a disklock but then again it does have an immobilizer. Don't know how
good they are but it does sound catchy

Hope they catch the guy and on a brighter note at the guy was having fun
with it. We have all been tempted to run from a cop before logic kicks in.

I'd be thinking sooner rather than later is probably a good idea since anyone
who might have wanted a blue 03 R6 now knows where to start shopping...
