I just got a page with lots of small photos on it. I was expecting to
see smashed oily looking bits of metal and remains of con rods peeking
    out to say hello.

I did, but I managed to miss out 2 characters. :) oOOoo... It really
spat some bits out didn't it...

Nice blow up. What rpm were you doing?

It wasn't mine luckily - I was just behind him when it went. We were
both flat out in 6th, holding just below the rev limiter at around
    13,700.

Yeh, looks like a flat out sort of blow up, lots of little bits, I
wonder how it feels to have an engine blow up at that sort of speed? Bet
you got splatted with a few bits of oil. :)

I think it would've felt very painful had he not pulled the clutch in
as quickly as he did - a locked wheel at those speeds isn't conducive
    to good health.

The worst thing about being behind was the amount of smoke. The whole
motorway just disappeared almost instantly, leaving me doing 165ish in
zero visibility whilst knowing there would now be a very slow bike
somewhere just in front of me & possibly a road covered in oil. I think
it was probably more scary for me than it was for him!

He got some warning of the blow up then? Like Sweller when his turbo
    bike went pop.
Enough to put a crimp on your day, yeh. Still, you all got out of it
unharmed. Was the bike under warranty?

Could chunks of metal jam in betwen the primary drive gears or gearbox
gear cluster, as they're in the same unit as the suck / squeeze / bang /
    blow bits?

I locked the back wheel at 90 or so when a ring caught in the exhaust port.
It left a nice black line on the road but no personal skidmarks. :)

Due to the accepted way of rotation than anything else...? I'd guess
that bits would tend to eject on a power stroke in the direction of
travel, which would be out through the front.

Bizarrely, my TRX managed to limp home around 8 miles or so with the
crank distinctly not in one piece.

    Sounded like a diesel, mind.

    Champ says...
Not just racing 2-strokes, believe me. It took me 2 years to get out of
the habit once I bought the 2nd ZZR11 and didn't own a stroker any
    more.

It didn't seize, at least not a real seizure. I thought the rebore man had
chamfered the ports but he hadn't, so it locked solid with a ring in the
    exhaust.

Rebore men never chamfer the ports, not any more they don't.

    No, nothing at all.
All MVs are under warranty when on the MV tour ;-)

The factory haven't stripped it yet as they're on the August shutdown,
so we don't know what's gone on inside. My guess would be the rest of
the conrod's jammed in the crank.
Heh, I bet that had them tittering.
