  1. NASA does it. At least, they do it with the space craft that DON'T explode.

NASA has never built *any* spacecraft at all.

The carbs I worked on long ago must have been from a buddies
bike. I really don't remember what it was. Like I once said, the
lock plate in your pic made me recall a really lousy job
to break some stupid screws. BTW; only some of them were
difficult. Maybe 2 or so... some of 'em came loose in the normal
    way.

The picture is from the Honda VF400F (NC13 in the USA). I currently
own two of them but did not yet do anything in the carb area other
than cleaning the air filter a couple of times.
If you know the cramped space on that bike, you can imagine
that even the idea of a broken throttle cable scares the hell
out of me. You gotta be a midget with 3 hands and magnetic
fingers to work on that machine.

It's a 90 degree V4 so the carbs are also under 90 degrees.
Seen from the horizontal, 2 carbs lean backwards 45 degrees,
and 2 lean forward 45 degrees. So the picture shows that
the inlets are 90 degrees apart.

Both bikes are vintage 86 and are brothers. Frame number,
engine number and license plate all differ 1 in the last digit.
I use one bike for parts (cannibalizing it). It is also used to
practice on (like I tried to remove the rear shock/swing arm).

Out of curiosity, I peeked in the scrap VF400F that is
rusting in my back yard. It turned out to be a simple
job. Remove gas tank (2 bolts), remove air cleaner lid
(2 screws), remove air cleaner housing (2 bolts).
I saw hexagonal bolts and bent tabs on the locking
    plates. Just like the picture.

Amazingly, even after two or three years out in
the open, the scrap is not rusting. It turns green.

In another thread I wrote about a 'stroboscope'. You may
know by now that I ain't a native speaker, so I should
have written 'timing lamp' or something like that.

    Have fun anyway,
    Rob.
