Well I did bid on a 'project' GFR that came up locally. A very different kettle of fish taht was. Missing a starter motor, all bodywork removed (but allegedly still present) and minus the nice original stickers. That reached 310 IIRC. A very rare beast and a hoot to ride (litre bike addicts need not apply). I suspect only 25 or at the most 50 ever officially imported. It does look literally a 'Minter'. In view of the fact that I am still finding it hard to resist I shouldn't say. If pressed, I wouldn't be surprised to see it reach four figures. What sayest TOG? Sigless in Google Groups
TBF I wouldn't have been interested if I hadn't already got one. Complete spares kit availability see? As I said in the original post, I wouldn't expect a litre sports bike addict to see the attraction at all. Anyway, not any old 125 but the alleged fastest production 125 (in at least one three way test against Mito and RS at the time anyway). Now I have two I could arrange for a head to head 125s at Cadwell battle - free a week on Wednesday?;-) The GFR(s) are being 'laid down' like fine wine for the lad (assuming I can avoid thrashing/crashing both of them). Yes I know they aren't learner legal, but he has always regarded the one I bought nine years ago as 'his'. That has 40000 Kms on the clock and may not be in prime condition when he gets a chance to ride it. This one has a genuine 3000 miles on the clock and has all the original factory stickers. He can always cut his thirteen year old hillclimb teeth on the not mint one (hence the sprocket enquiry) in the knowledge that all parts are available. Apropos climbing hills - no news is probably good news. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Voxan Roadster Gilera Nordwest Yamaha WR250Z | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 | +-------------------------------------------------------------+
Shame. I am sure you would toast me, and also trounce some of the 3 1/3s and 500s on a GFR. I will let you know ASAP if it is on. Perhaps we should try to arrange some Nordwest familiarisation time in case? It is road legal and insured. Not much you can do to the front forks, but the rear shock has ride height adjustment and a combined damping adjustment that might be worth fiddling with to suit you better. Carburation wrong as is due to OEM silencer (race can can for very good breathing would be on for Prescott). Pumps up the cooling system a bit quickly if provoked (particularly large throttle openings at low revs in higher gears), but on the tall gearing (16 now, 14 or even 13 for hills) it can be ridden quickly enough to get a feel for it. Short blasts, followed by a cool off and bicycle pump treatment applied to the expansion tank, are also possible. Cadwell would have been a good opportunity for that as well. Email me if you want to take a ride north and at least have a blast round the block to assess any simple adjustments you would prefer, rather than only being able to tinker between runs.
