That's exactly what I was thinking when you said 'dry ice'. Why not just strap a pair of CO2 fire extinguishers on and set them off as you ride off the ferry.

Depends... I know you can get little units that you clip onto a CO2 canister, and it will produce blocks of Dry Ice... but you need to have a bottle of CO2 knocking around... which you may or may not...and it needs to be of the syphon (dip tube) type, with two white bands running round it..
