Absolutely, I'm just aiming for the least-bad result. Probably be
    okay.

  4. I'm assuming that the client for the above work is not in possession of
a clue? If they had one surely they would be monitoring the progress of
the work and taking appropriate action to make the contractors feel some
    pain?

I realise I am living in "Corfield perfect world" but I'd be interested
to know just what's going on within the limits of what you feel able to
    share.

Eh? What's wrong with a letter to that effect?

  8. Aha... That's your lot is it... May I be the first to wish you the
very best of luck old bean. Actaully, from a PCT I probably am the
first... We're (PCT's) not included in the first tranche of this
    anyway - which is handy.
They don't share anything. It's a bloody good scheme - the only
problem is that PCT and Acute Occy Health and HR departments are so
busy telling everyone how busy they are, most people are working for
the best part of a year before they actually get checked.

AIUI this will eventually link to the spine and be rolled out beyond
    deaneries and acute trusts?

After 18 months I've just been asked to supply my degree cert (amongst
other things). Last time I saw the sodding thing it was on my mothers
living room wall - and she died 15 years ago. Ho hum.

There's a lot to be said for "good enough". Some IT projects aim to do
too much: things that are terribly spiffy but not really essential. If
you can just do what's needed, without a lot of bells and whistles, you
can do it cheaper, quicker and better.

That's because nerds get carried away with the "cool" stuff that new
products can do. Regardless of business requirements.

I've always been a bit of a reluctant techie; most systems and
software do loads of things that I don't need.

Computer Science graduates tend to be a bit like that: obsessed with
producing the "perfect" application at the expense of actually getting
    something out the door.

I generally just nick the document templates. As darsy mentions, I think
it's not really any good if your "stakeholders" (ugh) are techno-muppets,
like, oh, I don't know, in television.

Actually, even if your customer does know vaguely how to drive computers, RUP
seems to assume that the business you're in has evolved to the point that
state charts (for example) can actually be drawn, without looking like
something knocked up in Visio by a gibbon on crack
We made ours sit a bastard-hard J2EE written exam paper - without any warning

To be fair, tho, one could probably find examples of failure for every
    methodology.
