Come on then chaps - who do the FOAK recommend for multibike policies? This is the first time I've done a renewal for a multibike and, frankly, it's all a bit of a pain in the arse. H&R (who I've been with for years) have quoted me £430 for the RSV and another £85 to add the VFR. Auntie Carol comes in at about the same price, but chucks in breakdown and legal cover. Bikesure are about 60 quid cheaper and throw in much the same extras. The thing is that my cheapest quote for the RSV by itself is £210, which makes me think that, frankly, all of the above are taking the piss a bit. So, who else is worth talking to? -- AndrewR, D.Bot (Celeritas) Aprilia RSV-1000R, Honda VFR-750FL, Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo BOTAFOT#2,ITJWTFO#6,UKRMRM#1/13a,MCT#1,DFV#2,SKoGA#0 (and KotL) BotToS#5,SBS#25,IbW#34, DS#5, COSOC# Suspended, KotTFSTR# The speccy Geordie twat.
Ooo, never thought of that. Wouldn't a classic policy have a limited mileage, though? The VFR is my main bike, in terms of mileage (because I start to cry[1] after about 10 miles on the prilly. This has been discussed on the beardy group: Since Groupama took over Carole Nash, they've set the cut-off date for classics at 1982 (possibly to allow for a 25 year-old rolling limit). I've just had to insure my 1985 CB125RS on my modern policy (luckily for no extra premium). It looks like existing business for bikes over 15 but less than 25 years old is still taken as classic, but new business certainly isn't.
(The Older Gentleman) wrote in they haven't updated the website to reflect this http://www.carolenash.com/policy-benefits/ "Access to low cost classic bike insurance from when your machine is only 10 years old."
Well, that seems to be what's happening anyway, whatever the website says, and it reflects my own experience of last week. Look at the 'Auntie Carole redefines classic bike age' thread on ukrmc.
Ah, right. Slightly different policy, though. So you can't insure (say) a 20 year-old GPZ900R on a classic policy, but you can on a 'modern classic' policy. I was trying to add my 125 to my classic policy, which just had the 400 Four on it (31 years old and counting).
mine is with motorcycle direct. I'll see over the next week whether they're competitive. -- Adie (replace spam with nickname to reply) UKRM FAQ: http://www.ukrm.net/faq/ keeper of the ukrm faq for my sins YZF-R1 : ZX9R E1 : GPz 750 turbo MRO#11 BOTAFOF#7 BOTAFOT#130 DIAABTCOD#17 MIB#24 YTC#16 BOB#15 ex-UKRMMA#22 BOMB#11
I've just switched to Auntie Carol. My cheapest quote was around ?212 with H&R (142 online quote but then I rang to tell them about the modifications), but add on two lots of European breakdown cover & it came to a few quid less than Auntie, so she got the business to save hassle. -- Krusty www.MuddyStuff.co.uk Off-Road Classifieds '02 MV Senna '03 Tiger 955i '96 Tiger '79 Fantic Hiro 250
Apparently not - when I did I got told they were all busy and somebody would call me back, which they didn't bother doing. I went through the on-line quote and they came back with £482 for the prilly by itself. -- AndrewR, D.Bot (Celeritas) Aprilia RSV-1000R, Honda VFR-750FL, Fiat Coupe 20v Turbo BOTAFOT#2,ITJWTFO#6,UKRMRM#1/13a,MCT#1,DFV#2,SKoGA#0 (and KotL) BotToS#5,SBS#25,IbW#34, DS#5, COSOC# Suspended, KotTFSTR# The speccy Geordie twat.
I'm surprised; we've always found them to be very helpful in the past. Mind, I think they were taken over by one of the bigger brokers, sometime in the last year; perhaps the change is starting to show.
