    Phil Launchbury scribbled:
Alternatively what impression is he getting now?

That these scrotes can go round beating anyone up they want to. That
his parents, although concerned, do not do anything (like seeing the
scrotes parents, revenge, etc), that the so called upholders of the
law, the police, do not care, that the school staff do not care/are
    powerless to do anything.

Basically he'll get the impression that anyone, including him, can do
anything they want to, with no fear of repercussion.

I don't know the age kids actually start to develop a sense of
morality, (as opposed to mum & dad telling them things are right/wrong,
good/bad and the kids not understanding why) but I wouldn't like it if
any child of mine got the above impression.

If the scrotes got targeted what is the mindset perpetuated? If you do
something bad, something bad happens to you? Its not that violence is
OK, because they received some back and it hurts.

The obvious answer is the scrotes parents should discipline them, but
that ain't going to happen. The police don't care. Ignoring them gives
them the impression they can get away with more and more and more,
which is wrong. What's the realistic answer?

    Absolutely bang on the money.

The only real deterrence for criminals is a high probability of
    getting caught.

    Agree here.. but..
I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the only real deterrence, other
    factors can play a part.

Take as an example he risk of being injured or killed by other criminals
just because of the society they mix in. That in itself can be a very
real deterrance, particularly where drug or gang related crime is
    concerned.

Admittedly that's something contained within the criminal subculture
itself and therefore easy to overlook, but it's certainly a factor in
    criminals reforming.

Bloody Nora. Bastards. Glad he's OK though.
I wouldn't do anything yourself. Not until you are absolutely sure who it
is. Then it's probably best to do a bag over head back of van job and dump
them out of town somewhere. No speaking just efficient military style.
That is if you have the mates to do it.

But it's probably best to let the law do it for you. They have a
perseverance that you or I can only dream of. Put it down to "one of
life's little lessons" and move on.

So, let's assume that you're right. But, what if the victim is a
little old lady, without the ability to administer her own 'justice'?

I know - we could organise some suitably beefy chaps to do it on her
behalf. Of course, we'd need some rules to make sure they didn't
overdo it, and also to make sure they got the right person. Probably
also need some rules to make sure the punishment is appropriate to the
    crime, too.

Probably worth separating out some of these jobs, as well - lets call
the chaps who make sure you get the right person "the police". And,
to make sure they don't cheat, we'd probably better have some system
of checking on them - let's call that a "trial". And, we'll call the
chaps that decide on the punishment "the judiciary". And we'll have
another lot, let's call them "the prison system", to administer the
    punishment.

    How's that sound?

No it's not. You couldn't be more wrong.

This is one of millions of similar examples.
    I don't think it is.

Of course you do. Because you don't like to admit to yourself that
you're simply into revenge. but Champ is dead right here - revenge is
what it is, nothing more, nothing less.

What in the name of all that's holy do single parent families have to
    do with *anything* ?

Shit parents are shit parents, however many of them are in any one
particular family unit. As to teenagers going a bit wild, er, am I
really saying this to *you* ?

    A few questions:

What's the difference between unskilled labour in Burger King and
unskilled labour in the local factory, other than the reduction in
probability of a BK employee suffering a serious industrial accident?

How many un- or semi-skilled jobs in manufacturing have been replaced
by service-sector jobs in call centres and the like?

How many skilled jobs in manufacturing have been replaced by skilled
jobs in the technology sector, whether servicing PCs, performing
    cable installations, or similar?

How is the current unemployment figure compared with that of 50 years
ago, if you disregard the reduction in able workers due to the war?

You're currently about -->| |<-- this far from saying something like
"bring back national service, a short sharp shock will teach them
discipline and respect" in my eyes.

Well, you would, wouldn't you. Makes it much easier to put a veneer
of reason over your criminal activity.
Well, it "works" by not committing a second criminal offence.

But quite clearly he'll believe it's OK for him or family/friends to
twat anybody he feels deserves it. And get away with it. Do you really
not see the problem with this approach?

Champ came up with the following;:
The yobs I took to their parents would never be brought to trial or even up
on charges, everyone was scared or cba, including 'the system'.

Our village doesn't have a police station, a police officer or indeed anyone
of any authority anywhere close. To report a crime we have to ring a call
centre in Sheffield (We're the opposite side of Doncaster and checking
Autoroute it's 33.2 miles away), they in turn get the police station closest
(Doncaster station, which is 8.9 miles away) to send someone out when they
can. We _do_ have some 'Community Safety Officers' who walk around in pairs
with orange bibs on and a notebook once a week, Tuesdays, between 10am and 2
pm. If anything happens outside this time then tough shit. It was the
CSO's who told us who the kids were, but said they can't be touched. I
never understood why 'they can't be touched' as they are teenagers.

The whole justice system, in places, simply isn't working as it should.

Be a nice place if it did, mind. ;)

  18. But, meanwhile, if yer sprog gets duffed up, you want to exact revenge.
This is a *very* strong instinct. I wouldn't blame anyone for doing
"what they think necessary". For instance, what would most folks here do
if someone raped their wife or daughter? I for one wouldn't fucking
hesitate. Even if I did have to swing for it.
