  1. Which would paralyse them while still being conscious, so they could
appreciate you crushing their nuts with a pair of pliers and not do a
    thing about it.

That would be different. That has the elements of punishment and
retribution, rather than simply grabbing dosh from the public purse.[/QUOTE]

Plus it was something that happened, I presume, in the line of duty.
In any event it could be seen as a 'reward' for attempting to tackle a
crim, rather than just a sop to try and make a victim feel better.

    Something nonsensical. What's new?

Really? Oh well, it takes all sorts. I found his descripttions of
some of the frankly barking mad early scientists particularly
    enjoyable.
Being seen reading something informative and literate? No, I don't
    know why either.

I've read some quite interesting, and sad, books on the early scientists.
Bryson's is amusing and well constructed but, like I said, it just didn't
    engage me.

Utterly irrational. I'll stick it on my dislike of Fords pile.

Then Plod isn't useless, but the law is. Even if Plod had nicked them,
then the case would have been thrown out because they'd acted
    improperly.

Naah, it's a load of old bollocks from Beav's rather distorted
imagination. No way it could have been exactly as he says. Ignore him
and move on is my best advice.
