I'm only 5' 4", but my brother and his mate who were with us but said
absolutely nothing, are brick shithouse build, 6' 2" and 6' 3", both play
rugby and both just 'look' like animals. They're pussies really, BYKWIM.
    ;)
We are sort of holding our breath as it's still on-going, though we haven't
    had any trouble yet.
    Maybe not.

  12. Because for a few bruises and a cut head it's simply not worth the
months of aggro and hassle. And because I don't subscribe to the
compensation culture. And because I don't want him growing up thinking
that he ought to get compensated for everything.

Life comes with its own hard knocks. The fact that I want to throttle
the scrotes who did it doesn't mean that I think Jamie should be
showered with largesse for being on the receiving end of it.

I realise that this may be a minority opinion.

What *was* nice was that my local bike dealer, when I told him about it,
and about the fact that they damaged his calculator when they lobbed it
on the deck after mistaking it for a phone, gave him a FOAD Snap-On
calculator that he'd got as a freebie for...

....well, for buying lots of Snap-On tools, I suppose.

Well cool, it is. In red, wiv Snap-On on it, and it sort of self-erects
on its own little stand when you press a button.

    Bloody nice gesture.

It might not be any of the people they've had a pop at, as far as they're
concerned. It might just be the nature of the world that they presume is
extant anyway. Thus, this will simply solidify their view of the world and
perpetuate the violence. Note: I have no problem seeing teh value of
imediate recourse to violence and I can understand and sympathise with it. I
do however have reservations that the bitterness and scheming involved in a
long term plan of revenge could possibly be dealt with in a more
constructive manner that might lead to a generally healthier outlook on the
world, especially when a young 'un is involved. If something so bad occurs
that it twists a person into becoming a vengeful machine bent on knobbling
his adversaries then that's understandable and deserves sympathy. But to
recommend it as an acceptable course of action as a considered argument is
    somewhat worrying.

Now would be the time to support the best course of action that will have
the healthiest outcome for the lad. Not turn it into Die Hard Jr.
Assuming that violent people are also thick might make you feel better about
your perspective but it doesn't necessarily follow.

Now oddly enough I thought precisely the opposite. I had this image of

  18. Well, I was talking about British society. Where I live, the "mindless
violence" culture hasn't arrived yet. These people are *obsessed* with
the family culture. For example (por ejemplo), the daughter of a local
bar owner recently had a baby (when I say *had* a baby, I mean gave
birth to a baby. English can be so ambiguous at times). The bar had to
close for the *whole family* to attend hospital and coo over the little
    beast.

  19. Sometimes, I find the level of self-righteousness (shit, I've forgotten
english) shown here to be quite staggering.

And another thing - all that teenagers understand is their hormones - or
rather they don't. Oh, **** it, I'm going for a swim.
