I'll never be able to listen to "Knights In White Satin" again without thinking of the booth... Postman Pat
So, after all that whining you're falling back on the "I was trolling" defence? Wow. Sophistimicated. -----sharks
Why smokers? Are they sick? Make sick people pay more for health insurance. It's criminal that everyone pays the same premium regardless of how healthy they are or how many claims they make and then the health insurance companies actively encourage people to make claims on their insurance... and never buy health insurance off companies who use professional sporting persons in their advertisements... nothing worse than knowingly paying for self inflicted injuries suffered by millionaires... and the government forces us to do this. I wasn't trolling I was serious. When I saw the initial email in the mra mailing list i got pissed off with the tone or martin's email. I think Martin deserved a taste of his own medicine.
Minx said.... Don't smokers already pay for their habits through excise? And if a high salary earner smokes, then merely by his marginal rate, he pays more than a low income earner who doesn't smoke. Thing is, stats tend to show that low income earners smoke more than high income earners. Something to do with higher education and people allegedly being smarter as a result. As for the fat people thing, I understand that some airlines have forced overly dimensioned pax to pay for an extra seat....
Smee said.... And you're a shit stirring bullshit artist. It's up to Minx and the individual concerned if they wish to make this public. Suffice it to say, after I posted that note in the MRA Forum, someone said that they wrote to Minx telling her that what she posted was incorrect. I don't know what the "words" were. The purpose of my original post to the MRA Forum was to advise people that there was a misunderstanding as to Damien Codognotto's role within the organisation and in particular who was running with this petition. And it is something that needs to be rectified. I think that it's fairly common knowledge now, that DC's somewhat disruptive and aggressive attitude has alienated a lot of people over the past few years. And it's something that the Board is trying to deal with. Anyway, that's all it was. For whatever reason, you've seen fit to drag this down to some indeterminable level and try and make an issue where really, there is none. But then, I should not have expected anything else. This is Usenet, after all.
Well, given that Martin is still sitting over there with a silly look on his face wondering what the **** you're on about[1], I guess it's fair to say your dose of 'medecine' missed the mark by a fairly wide margin. Moike [1] Although it's getting hard to see him in the crowd that's gathering over there.....
....but that's a direct tax on their habit, not an extra fee they pay as a consequence of their habit. A better example would have been the extraordinarily disproportional premiums which smokers have to pay for life insurance... Nev.. '03 ZX12R
They certainly do, through the nose in fact. RRP of a $10 pack of cigarettes is about $8 tax and $2 cost of manufacturing/distribution/profit etc JL (I gave up when they were $2 a packet...)
Naah all those straight lines are decidedly unnatural I suspect both NSW *and* SA would be improved by handing over Wilcannia JL
Interesting pricing in Singapore. A packet of Rothmans were S$10.50 in retail shops. S$20.50 a carton of 10 packets at the airport duty free. Are you sure it's only 80% tax? Theo
