Well, if the most important thing is to be seen to be doing *something*.....

I know, I was referring to the people kidding themselves. Sorry if I snipped
    a bit much.

Well... strictly from an OH&S perspective you understand... if one was
going to throw children overboard then the heavy lifting involved would
probably be more of a straight back, knee jerk reaction than otherwise :)

  10. Strange OH&S guidelines you have. It'd be more like put them into a
    hoist......

Clearly OH&S procedures were in place as they did not throw them overboard
(too much heavy lifting) they pulled the plug on the boat, a more efficient
method of achieving a identical result.

    Hmmm... [imagines a Mythbusters-style giant catapult kiddie-cannon]
Now THAT would be fun to watch!

You missed it! They did that this week. The suggestion was that illegal
immigrants were entering the USA from Canada using a giant portable catapult
mounted on a truck and landing on several mattresses on the USA side 200
    yards away.

It was fun to watch. The poor 'kiddies' lost a few limbs on landing, and
they didn't quite make the 200 yards.

    Incoming!!!!

You didn't see it on SBS this week?

They built a giant slingshot to test the 'theory' that illegal
immigrants are using giant slingshots to hurl themselves over the
border, landing 200M away on mattresses. I suspect they are running out
of myths, but the sight of a shanghai made from two radio towers with 40
lengths of 1" surgical rubber tubing as propellant brought back some of
    the fantasies of my childhood.
